Hello all, my 2002 Y61 3L D.I. turbo cranks, but won't start. Help!

It shut down normally after less than an hour of bitumen driving, but when I tried to go a few hours later it just kept cranking with no hint of trying to start.
Plenty of fuel in both tanks & not just fueled up. No rain, water crossings, or rough terrain, temp, etc all normal.
Removed the fuel filter, checked the empty water trap, disconnected the filter outlet hose & manual priming gives good, clean fuel flow but when I cranked the engine with the hose disconnected, there is zero suction.
I presume there should be suction any time the motor is cranked, or is there an electrical shut-off control which disables the suction?
Any hints appreciated.

This has the symptoms of the Injection pump retiring mate.

Thanks Hodge, I suspect you are right but as the pump was replaced by Barton's Nissan dealership, Capalaba, Queensland less than 54,000 km ago, (about 4years ago) at great expense, I was hoping it might be an electrical issue instead.
Any ideas?

I'm not sure if your model has NATS (Nissan anti-theft) system. Is there a red light on top of dash blinking when car is locked?
On some models, NATS shuts off the fuel solenoid on the pump. Basically NO diesel gets in. So it'll crank, but no bingo. This can happen if the security system is playing up, issues with key, etc...

Hi again, yep, NATS equipped. The top-of-dash red LED flashes on for 2 seconds every 30 seconds when vehicle is locked, as well as when unlocked & key out.
When I switch the ignition to ON but not to START, there is a 5 second delay before the red LED lights up & stays on.
I found the list of ECU codes somewhere but don't have an ODBC reader or knowledge about any of that.
Is there a list that explains any top-of-dash red LED flash sequences?

Ahh OK. Well, there you go.
With IGN to ON and not starting the light shouldn't be illuminated. At least that's how it is on my 2005 Patrol.
Solid red light is immobilizer doing it's thing . So something in the NATS system may not be turning the immobilizer off.

Thanks Hodge, still dredging the forum for red LED codes, but no luck so far. Disconnected the battery for more than an hour but no change. Tried both keys.
A little bit of fuel comes out of the fuel return line at the tank when cranking immediately after manually priming the filter, but not sure if that was the result of cranking or the manual priming.
Do you know how to test the unit surrounding the ignition switch?
It's got me frustrated.

As far as the LED goes, I don't think theres codes so to speak to my knowledge.
If it's blinking, means it's armed. If it's off, means it's disabled and car should start normally. A solid lit LED means there's an issue.
I'm pretty sure that's what it's like.
Someone can correct me if i'm wrong.

Try typing NATS or nats in the search bar. There has been plenty of forum members having problems with it. I just had a quick search, and one suggestion was to hook up an OBD scanner to check for codes.

I thought pre-07 wasn't compatible with OBD2 protocol

I'm thinking it would be handy to locate the fuel cut off solenoid and experiment with it.

You are right, I looked it up on google but after re-reading it, I see that did not notice that Aus and NZ was forced to have it after 2006.
