Lithium batteries

So think I've finally sussed out 12v system for the 4by, been thinking about lithium for a while but not sure about linking and winching etc and with a bit of research looks like they're not suited. Anyways with two new Optimas under bonnet will use these for main / winch and will a run lithium behind drawers for all accessories with redarc bcdc to charge.

Just wondering if anyone has much experience / knowledge with brands, I know Invicta are supposedly top shelf but so is price lol, I think this is what ARB sell. .
Looking at ebay there is a fairly big range in price but could be somewhat a gamble lol. .

Any experience and feedback welcome [emoji106]. .

I don't know if they are any good or not but I really like the option of some of the slimline lithium batteries, perfect for mounting to the back of the drawers I reckon.

Yeah had been looking at some of those voltaX ones further down on link seem reasonable so might be a good option . . Measured the space behind drawers and can just fit a 175 ml or thereabouts wide battery so is pretty perfect really. .

Hiya Rossco. Can't comment on the starter, winching, cranking variety of lithium's...
But fitting a lithium as my Aux battery was the best thing ive ever done. Weighs 11kg. A 1/4 of my original AGM! It lasts forever. Charges in no time as it swallows all the amps you throw at it. I pondered for a while if it was worth the jump after my CTEK killed the original AGM. And then I splashed out... Was a decent $ outlay in contrast to the other battery varieties... But I'd like to believe it was the best investment amp-per-dollar IMO.

Cheers Hodgey, so sounds like you've had no probs with battery, where did you get it from and what dollar range. . A tiny bit more research looks like Renology have a good rep and at least cheaper than Invicta. . There are cheaper ones but as with all things cheap can be a gamble. .

So this will just run accesories with two Optimas for starter, run the winch and driving lighting not much else really. As Optimas are brand new and with new lithium is a fair investment but should be set for a while hopefully. .

In my opinion you are pretty well looking at having the ultimate battery setup. You have a pair if the best cranking/winching batteries available and soon to have the best type of house battery available. Winning!

I'd run the lithium for my accessories. The batteries are good enough these days to not use anything else. I power the lights in my work ute canopy with a Milwaukee battery

But seeing as you have 2 optima's you could use a series/parallel switch to 12/24v the winch. 12v for general lighter duties with less flashover and 24v for when you need to get down to business.

So ended up after a huge amount of deliberation getting an ITechworld 120x which is a 107AH. It'l be way overkill for what what I need but what the hey it will be awesome I reckon. . Was looking at the Vlotax which are pretty cheap and also Renogy which are a lot more highly regarded but happy to spend more on an Australian product for the Itech. In the end the main thing was the temperature range of the BMS and operation of the battery with most around 0 to 50 degrees which isn't bad but who knows what happens in ther snow or in cab can easily get up there. . Can't remember what the ITech was but looks like it should be good on paper and sure it will IRL lol. . .

A bit of info on their real world under-bonnet performance here. It is not a Patrol, but still not bad information.

My set up is quite different.
I have two DCS (Deep Cycle Systems) 12V 200Ah Slimline batteries.
Because of the overall capacity, lithium benefits (such as rapid charging) and monitoring system they are just being run in parallel.
The charging system is managed by a smart programmable control unit which includes alternator temp monitoring. They are charged by a 320 max/240 idle amp alternator which they will accept full charge rate from until it potentially overheats.
There is a MOTEC PDM unit that many accessories such as fridges run off which has a programmable low voltage cutoffs
Batteries are mounted behind the cab and under the tray
We actually pulled them apart to strengthen the internal mounting too

Which and what Lithium’s/AGM’s can currently handle getting half their guts truly sucked out in under 2-3 Minutes Please Folks [emoji51]?

Itechworld are good, but they are not aussie made as some may think. They may have aussie mined contents in them. A bit overpriced, and wont easily refund you the difference if their batteries go on sale a day after you buy one.All are made in china.
Look at numbers like max continuous current draw, amp hours, max peak current draw, max charging current, and if you want a starting battery, CCA. Some batteries can provide huge CCA for emergency starting.
Lanplus on ebay in west heidelberg is a good seller, have been there and seen they fully test their batteries to make sure they are close to advertised capacity.
