Sleeping in a 2007 Nissan Patrol?

Hi All,

I'm not sure if this was the correct place to post this question..

I am going for a quick one night camp this weekend and wanted to experiment with sleeping in my 2007 Nissan Patrol, which still have the back seats.

The setup needs to be temporary, so i was thinking along the lines of getting a sheet of weather proof wood (as it would go on my racks, MDF wouldnt last in the rain!), raising the middle section (between the backseats) with something (not sure yet!), then lying the wood down with a self inflating mattress.

Would there be a better way of doing this? Any ideas as to what i could use to raise the area between the back seats so its level with the folded down middle seats?

How tall are you mate? I've slept lengthwise, L to R on the rear seats a few times. Can't stretch the legs, but it was actually reasonably cosy considering. Didnt worry me one bit. Pillow and thick cover.
All this while a few mates froze swagging it outside. In the morning turned the car on and heater on and got cozy again while the fire outside was gearing up.

Well i'm 180 and i had no issue. Knees bent a bit overnight, but so be it.

Haha.. just had a lie in the back seat.. pretty comfy! Will give it a go this weekend!

Cause of the curve of the seats I just packed it with another cover to make it more "flat-ish" and that was that.

Yup did notice that, will try level it out a little..

I've had success with just folding the middle seats forward, folding the rear cargo seats down with the backs folded forward and it creates a pretty level area.
I bought a double inflatable mattress from Kmart and it fitted perfectly in the back over the seats, both length and width ways!

Back in a previous life (before kids) I had a custom drawer system the same height as the seats folded down and used to throw a single bed from front (back of front seats) to rear of car.

it worked a treat, loved it but then kids came along and cargo barrier ruined everything!

I've tried the sideways sleeping before (179cms) and it's not uncomfortable.. but for the life of me I've never been able to sleep properly like that. I'm not normally a precious sleeper either.

I'm not saying don't try it.. but maybe have a back up if you're out for a few nights.

Yep that must be horrible blokes sleeping sideways in the back?

I’m 190 something which is not possible but even if you can “just” fit in I would hate that!

Just roll down the back of the front passenger seat and sleep in that... more comfortable than the 2nd row.

Yeah I agree with this. While still pretty crappy it is much better than trying to squeeze into the back seat.

In my 2001 GU I found that moving the front passenger seat fully forward take the head rest out & lay the backrest down fully it just squeezes in to the rear seat & lays nearly flat & was pretty comfy

08 GUIV sleep in the back often with the Engel for company(winter warmth), have double draws in back with mid row(rear) seat back folded fwd with tool bag on floor behind drivers seat and packing on top of tool bag to level single mattress out. Good night sleep, could do two singles side by side with fridge outside.

U have rear seats in (don't know how they would level out folded down) but could do similar as I do - fold both 2nd row rear set backs fwd, leave rear "dicki" seats folded up out of the way and on the floor in the back between the 3rd row "dicki" seats put a box or knock up a central infill structure(open ended for gear access) like shaped "thingo" to level out mattress. Fill in cavity behind front seats and should be good.

Im 183 or used to be now Im 180, I have a 2.5mtr awning you can use roof racks,
I mounted mine to a piece of 50x25 rhs enclosed both ends with brackets
and you can enclose it with cheap awning walls,then
I sleep off the ground in a swag on a stretcher, never sleep on a lilo even with a ground sheet you will freeze
You could make a pull out floor with a bespoke made tarp to cover th rear doors that would keep you dry
Only yesterday saw a pull out floor in a dual cab , at Trek Hardware but check your local Decent 4x4 supplier
Self inflators are a great idea,, bulky but great

Yeah I'm with Clunk. I've tried rear seats and they've never worked for me. I can sleep in front seats if I support my arms with a few pillows or whatever.

Go with your initial ply board idea up top mate and or inside possibly too.
Personally can’t sleep too well either unless quiet level flat with legs stretched out straight to function/drive again safely early the next morning.
Depending on overnight temperatures and without in cab heating it can be horrible trying to sleep inside a tin can Esky, certainly dangerous practice in the mountain areas.
Consider a Super Cheapo swag off the cold ground or up top away from critters if your bladder will kindly permit 6hrs kip!

I did a night away the other weekend with mates and slept in the car.
I took the fridge (which I didn't have last time I slept in the car) but a single inflatable mattress from Kmart fitted perfectly and was very comfortable.
I could lay flat with my feet at the barn door and didn't need to move the front seat forward. I'm 185cms.

i’ve got a much simpler solution - i tend to drink A LOT & find i can sleep anywhere - under the car , on the wood heap , draped over the spare wheel like a fake fur 👍🏻

Haha oh, you wouldn't want to do that around my mates [emoji23] you'd have a tablespoon of habanero chilli or instant coffee in your mouth to wake you up before you've even got comfortable on that wood heap.
