Does anybody on here have a ARB compressor and a catch can mounted under the bonnet of a GU CRD?
I currently have my catch can mounted where the compressor could fit but not sure if both will fit together.

Probably not much help but this is where mine is mounted in the GQ which is where the air box is in a 3ltr. Good thing about the ARB ones is you can move them around a bit for different positions which helps. Still was a major PITA getting to the bolts on the bugger tho !

I have mounted mine in the driver's side wing on my drawers and have the outlet on the face of the wing. Makes it easier to reach trailer tyres as well.

Hey TPC. This is where i mounted mine when I had my 3L 2009 CRD. Backed it onto the second battery tray. Ample room for the catch can behind it as well as a redarc BCDC unit fitted in too. Seems tight. But keeping it neat made it work.
Edit: Please Be careful of that small nipple/hose on top coolant pressure tank. They tend to snap when working around it.

Under the passenger seat and run an extension hose so the filter is mounted in the quarter panel card. This greatly reduces the noise and raises the intake level. Also run all the wiring and relays into water proof junction boxes, so if the car floods the compressor still functions.
My personal preference is anywhere BUT in the engine bay. I agree with MB that compressors prefer cool, clean air. They get hot when being used so IMHO it's a good idea if they at least start out as cool as possible.
I had an ARB copy of their single cylinder compressor under passenger seat. There is room for is to stand upright, now I have the ARB twin, its lower in overall height so even more room... Just had to make up a mounting plate.
Mine is under the bonnet on the drivers side .... I made a special bracket to fit it, and modified a couple of the mounting bolts to make it easy to remove for any maintenance.Quote:

Finished earlier installing an ARB single compressor on Mrs MB’s 2001 GU TD42T wagon inside under her front passenger seat.
(no passenger side airbag as I believe our old family 2002 ZD30 ‘safety pack dual airbags’ may have had some electrical goodies in this location below.....unsure?)
Pretty happy as not one single Tex-Screw was needed throughout the making of this post....all OEM holes utilised :-)

#6 ARB supplies two sets of mounting bolts for different applications of which found on this installation idea all eight can be utilised.

#9 Bolt the two plates together perpendicular using two of the now shorter hex head bolts, washers either side and two of the new 6mm nyloc nuts.

#10 Using the supplied cup head bolts that are designed to anti-spin on the upper side mounting slotted bracket finish by installing the supplied four washers and nyloc nuts underneath.

#11 Cut excess cuphead bolts to similar length of previous hex head bolts protrusion. (not too close and or hot as the nyloc may be affected?)

#12 Using the final two remaining ARB and previously cut hex head bolts with two new washers as before mentioned with fresh thread locking goo a decent slimline 10mm ratchet ring spanner can fit underneath for final OEM holes installation.

#13 Each to their own but I chose to install the compressor with air filter rearwards so as can unscrew for maintenance from under behind the rear of the seat. Also adjusted the ARB manifold and fittings to have the tyre inflation forwards with her new front locker only solenoid line pointing directly at the left side door to be able to run its hosing under the plastic floor trim up to the firewall tomorrow.

Decided to trim off the OEM closest air duct flute as it was touching hard against the ARB piston area too. May have to shield further along too possibly?

need to be a bit wary if compressor has a thermal cut out switch,
under bonnet temps will render it useless untill it cools down,
Good point John. I have the ARB difflock compressor mounted on the chassis rail on passenger side, however it gets a bit of airflow from the location adjacent to the mechanical fan. The under hood temps can get pretty high especially with the Chev. I have not had any issues to date with mine, and suspect the setpoint will be pretty high to cope with the duty cycle these units are designed for.Quote:

The sneaking suspicion of an old manual supplied in box for me was that all instructions talk of 5mm air line descriptions.
In fact supplied now is all 6mm line and fittings too which is great as can be bought anywhere unlike old ARB systems, some I’m still running in the ute with 5mm ARB sky blue only usable lines.
A great 6mm improvement Sir Tony Brown, just need to get the office to update them papers for nuffy’s like me please :-)
