63% reductions suit GQ & GU patrol [QLD]

ITEM: 63% reductions suit GQ & GU patrol (3.29:1 ratio)

CONDITION: brand new in unopened box made by Marks 4wd.

PRICE AND PRICE CONDITIONS: 1410 + post

EXTRA INFO: I have a set of these in my own vehicle and to be honest, they are the best ratio for reductions, I have only ever had positive feedback.
I had them made as a custom order by Marks 4wd as I felt the ratios they offered (43% and 85% lower than stock) were not what I was after.
The 43% reduction still leaves the 1st gear final drive ratio faster than that of a stock 1HZ landcruiser and the 85% can be too slow and leave you range changing and just hating life in general.
These gears come with full manufacturers warranty as comes from Marks and I can post to most of Australia for $25-35. I am happy to quote freight internationally.
Probably one of the best mods I have done to my truck, I would say in terms of wheeling they made more of a change than my lockers did, as it is such an overall improvement
Cost to install varies from $300 to over $1000 with the average being around $500.
It can be done at home if you are spanner handy.

One day when coin permits too I was previously thinking about changing diff ratios in our family wagon TD4.2T running 33” tyres from 3.9s to say 4.3s for slower track work. Don’t really want to lose highway efficiency though by doing this and your gears may be the answer. As a very rough ratio guide would your gears in low range equate to something like 4.6 diffs when off-road? Cheers Mark

Does look like the go Mr Mark mate, wishing too here we are! Have roughly priced up front and rear diff centre swaps + a Mark’s 5th gear highway upgrade to counteract and appears double if not triple. What’s your preferred pace/ratio old mate, this 63% sounds really good but unsure of the maths?

Mark, I've got these installed for the exact same reason you mentioned. Slow track work and I don't lose fuel efficiency as it's my daily. Best way I can explain the ratio is when in low 1, I was looking for a lower gear, always too fast on the downhill runs and bloody dangerous when wet. Now I need to accelerate sometime. Have only done one trip with them in (with the old 35s) and yes, well worth it. It's a good balance for my tb45+auto.

And I'm also running 3.9s

Yeah the 5th gear thingo I wouldn't mind doing too.

Reduction gears are probably the best mod I have done to the Patrol. Absolutely transformed it off road.
Best thing to do is get onto Marks Adapters web site and look at the table which lists the actual reduction you get for different model Patrols as there is a big difference between autos and manuals. Also tyre size and diff ratios will make a difference.

The price is good as well. I paid $1500 for my gears direct from Marks.

If someone buys my 35's AND RIMS FOR 15hunge I will buy them. Lol

Yeah Love Ke70 started by doing a group buy on these ratios across both Patrol forums and has since been buying them by the pallet as Marks will only do them as a custom ratio with a minimum order. I'd expect him to have more than one set. He almost should be chatting to @AB about a vendors thread.

From all accounts it's a great ratio.

Heard a rumour that installing the 85% gears requires some slight case rib cutting which would worry me a little bit. Sounds like his 63% fit in no sweat which would be ideal too!

There is also slight grinding required for 43% gears as well. Only the 24% gears fit straight in.

Don't know, I got them installed. Didn't like the idea of moving around a transfer case that weighs more than me.

Mark, to answer your question, each ratio change is about 5%
so 3.9 to 4.11 is 5%, 4.11 to 4.375 is 5%, 4.3 to 4.6 is about 5% too, so that is about 15% reduction.
These gears are a 63% reduction, but obviously only affect your low range.
For a reference, compared to your standard low range gears you have now, low 3rd is a gear between your current first and second low range.
Low fifth will be just a bit slower than your current high second :)

Jaysee, very true, the downhill control is what I wanted and I love them :D I dont know how I went without now I have had them for so long I love it!

Rock Trol and Mark, Yep, the Marks website will have the info but my ratio will not be there as they are built to my order. They obviously fit nicely in between the 43 and 85. They do fill a gap marks tells me there is no market for...to me they fill a massive gap where you want slow, but not crazy slow and the 43 is still too quick

MudRunner, this is a one off for sale thread for one set, how many sets I do have is irrelevant hahaha but nah, seriously, I have bugger all of this pallet left and I wont do another run for atleast 18 months. I have a house to build. I sell them on facebook and just jumped on here to try move a couple more to get them all gone :) I have done 150 sets in the three or so years since the first group buy thread.

With the case grinding, the Marks instructions are the same for the 43s the 63s and the 85s, but alot of people say they can fit 43s without grinding the case. I dont know as I have never installed a set myself! The 63's do need a grind, but it is very minor. Check the instructions here

The reversing thing is going to make your missus smile from ear to ear! I absolutely love reversing my work trailer, clutch out and just doodle along, so much easier to do when youre not slipping the clutch!

In all honesty I too believe these new found awesome reduction gears will save money in the long run without smashing trucks uphills ;-)
