Blow by clean
Attachment 73390Attachment 73391Attachment 73392Attachment 73389Hey guys, dumb question but please bare with me, still learning. Oil has been running down turbo and looks like its leaking from the pipe to the intercooler. Whats the best way to clean these pipes and intercooler, what are the gaskets called i need to/should replace? And should i be cleaning the turbo or is that a job for the professionals? Cheers

G'day Jayden mate!
Quite difficult from your pics and description here mate. Best to keep queries I believe under one thread they say. Hopefully then a knowledgable turbo guru shall be along ASAP :-)
-
My RD's turbo and intake looks the same way.
Do you have the oil catch can?

Just for experiment, blow the carters ventilation to the atmosphere for a week. I know, that it's bad for environment, but if it will dissolve your problem, just install the oil catch can and the turbo and intake will be clean.
If, after a week they will be still dirties, the problem is inside the turbo.
Sorry for my english :icon_bonk:

Oil appears a plenty mate, be careful it's not internally leaking like WM kindly mentions. Have you been topping up the sump more than usual Jayden?
-
Is that the hose from the pressure relief valve or what ever? If so what end do i disconnect from?
-
If anything itd be a bit low, when i bought it a few months ago i did a service on it and the oil was pretty low. Drained about 7lts out and put 10 back in. That was about a month ago, last checked about a week ago and still looks good. Old mate reckons hes had the turbo hi flowed so wouldnt suprise me if theres an issue with the internals or something
-
Not sure Jayden, was honestly concerned about your internal oil consumption though as a very good mate of mine may have hydro-locked his TD from turbo issues.
-
Sorry, typing same time :-)
-
Haha all good, what happens when you hydrolock it?
-
Increased cylinder pressure will find a donks weakest link mate! Banana Conrods etc.... :-(
-
Deffinitely do not want that! Exactly what im trying to avoid haha. Just working cheapest ways first
-
For sure mate. WM's idea sounds good for a test. You could also pull off the air outlet of the turbo that heads towards your engine and check how much oil is inside the pipework near there. Sorry, that's about the extent of my turbo knowledge Jayden, best of luck mate!

mmm its a fairly typical leak . Just disconnect the engine breather and run it to Atmosphere like someone else said . check the air filter is not blocked .
lots of diesels do this when they get a few Kms under there belt . the fumes get in the intake to the Turbo . the turbo then centrifugal force takes over and the oil gets separated out of the air oil mix . then you get oil leaks
-
Makes sense, so putting a catch can in would be a good idea to just keep things tidy and clean? Cheers mate
-
Sorry for late.
The carters ventilation hose is going somewhere from rocker cover to the intake before turbo.
The oil catch can installing somewhere on this hose.
-
Yeah sweet thats the one i was thinking of, cheers for that

Apparently I need a new phone Jayden, pictures split again!

How much oil are you going through with all this mate :-(
Sounds to me like you should wash/degrease the whole truck then use 'Talcum Powder' once dry in all of the suspect spots to show close up pictures so the best blokes here can help you out mate!
-
I pretty much did that to the engine bay today haha, the only spots i have seen it leaking are on the sump and down the turbo and stuff. Ill have to clean it off the sump to see where the leak is coming from there.
