Does anyone know of a good diesel specialist in the NE of Melbourne?
My patrol (3.0 crd) is blowing black smoke. I don't notice it from the cab except when taking off on a hill but people following me on trips all mention it.
I am am not sure if the injectors are on the way out or if it's caused by the remap l had done 3 years ago. Engine has done 180,000 km and the boost is fine (15-18 psi). The car runs well but not very clean.

Has anyone had any experience with Rankin Diesel in Bayswater? It's a little further out but maybe a go as well. Their reviews are good.
No personal experience with RD mate but they were truly very well regarded from old diesel mates years ago. I ran and serviced own old petrols on the cheap back then so never visited but would have I reckon from listening. Since converting to diesel circa 2005ish we've used Andy from Diesel Tec and happy for us tunes always.
Had experience with Rankin years ago and were very professional from memory.

JPC, Diesel Tec as mentioned, 4x4 Solutions in Bundoora, 4x4 Obsession in Melton (they do a lot of Patrols), steer clear on Turbo Engineering in Thomastown.
Thanks for the info guys. The Patrol is due for a service so I will take it in to 4x4 Solutions and get them to take a look. They serviced the car last time.
They don't have a Dyno though so can't check the AFR.
Had the Patrol serviced at 4x4 Solutions. Everything checked out and they suggested it’s just over fueling due to the remap. Called JPC and they seemed pretty switched on. Need to find time to get the car over there for a dyno run. Not sure what they can do though. There may be an option to retune it with a unichip but would be very expensive.
Just about to walk over to JPC now and pick my Patrol up...

Wish I had originally gone down the unichip route. I didn’t know too much about them at the time and thought they were just another chip that plugs in after the ecu and increases fuel pressure.
I don't think boost was adjustable with the setup I had. Unless wastegate was adjustable in some way. But to me it was a set and forget thing. I never touched it. They tuned everything to 19PSI and that was it. Car behaved the best at that.Quote:

Do you mean the chip? If so it must be something new as mine was not user adjustable. It was a blank chip fully tuned to my car from scratch and locked away.
Getting new hi flow injectors. Somehow my 35thou old ones were destroyed. Every single one of them were fubar. Even though I was still making 160rwkw, I knew something wasn't right, and for quite a while too. It would run out of puff earlier than I though t it should, quite smokey down low in the revs and hard on the gas. So Im hoping the feelings I had will be a distant memory when I pick it up. Was supposed to be yesterday, but, they spotted a small leak on the water rail for the cylinder head, so they were going to attend to this aswell so I said I will just pickup today.Quote:

Hodge, the new unichip is called th Q4. Not sure if it will work with a Patrol. It certainly looks the goods though. You can change the maps on the fly with a control module inside the cab. Mild to wild. You don’t need to have an aggressive tune al the time, only 2hen needed.

Back to square one. Get remap undone if possible or look st getting injectors tested/replaced. Both bloody expensive and not sure which one it is.
