Yep you heard right I use Castrol 2T whenever I have a long trip.
I tip the full bottle in for 95ltrs of diesel, Makes the motor a tad quieter as well
I also have used this process for over 20 yrs and it does make the engine quieter. The dose rate I used is half what you are using though. Not sure if the extra concentration is of benefit or simply wasted. I also used the mineral based oil, not synthetic - simply due to recommendation, and its a whole lot cheaper as well. I tend to buy it in 4L bottles and dispense as required - also reduces cost, but can be a pain for longer trips.Quote:

Been using that exact one for little while now. Definitely makes the motor run quieter and smoother... But I don't know whether it makes any difference performance or fuel efficiency wise.
Old school diesel mechanic near here recommends 1:1000 mineral auto transmission fluid.
Compliments fuel that has been modified for modern engines and helps with the performance a small amount.
Haven't found a diesel mechanic yet who endorses 2 stroke, and I keep asking.
BUT if you are happy that is what's important, this is just my "research" and its not backed up by any proof.
Edit: I have tried the 2 stroke in 2 vehicles and many litres, at 5 cents a litre extra I started asking questions as I couldn't sense any "improvement".
Macca, I would really doubt 1 litre in 1000liters would make much of a difference? Do you mean 1 in 100? I have heard the auto trans fluid story also, but can't remember the ratio, or if it was even stated. I recall 1:200 for mineral 2 stroke. I found it took about 1/4 of a tank to start doing whatever it is supposed to be doing internally, then the engine, a toyota 2H, Mercedes 300GD and my 2.8 Td patrol all 'seemed' to have less of a 'clack' or the pitch had softened a bit. For me, it makes the engine run quieter. I have only got 400 Kilometers on the new chev, so can't really tell on this motor - its still too new and sounds are all different. Regards cost, yes any additive starts to add the cost/klm. I do run Moreys fuel additive which is a less smoke formulation, again unsure if there is a benefit yet on this engine, but on the 2.8TD that thing running Moreys and 2 stroke was just about smokeless and for an overweight 2.8 it went well and was pushed hard at times on the open road. Even under hard acceleration there was no visible 'plume' behind.Quote:

Macca, BP used to put a catalyst in with the diesel to improve total burn. This is like a brew of sub micron particles that get very hot under compression and essentially increase the combustion process. i used to add a similar product to my fuel that i was sourcing from Shell, however the name escapes my memory right now. This additive was very expensive and you only needed a very small quantity/liter, again can't remember the ratio. The manufacturer of this additive told me that BP add it to their diesel as a standard - but that was 15 years ago - maybe they still do? I also use Diesel Power.Quote:

I would like to catch up with the local specialist as he has helped me with advice which worked.
He is a real gentleman but has suffered from Shingles over the Christmas break so I've left him alone.
If he is better it would be good to have a yarn with him again.
@peterc99, where and or how much do you have to buy to get 2T at $4.00 a litre?

Through the magic of the WWW my computer put up an add from SCA for 4 litres of 2T, this works out at 5.125 cents per litre a bit better than buying single litre bottles.

Hi Macca a calculation error (must be the heat affecting the brain computer or a couple of beers) should have been 4c per litre.
I bought 2 x 4 litres when it was on special at Repco, but due to the low mileage I’ve been putting on the vehicle it’s lasted me a long time. Can’t recall what I paid, but it was a good price. Almost out of it now so need to start keeping an eyeout for another special. Happy to use any brand so long as it’s mineral based if it’s cheaper than the Castrol Activ 2T I’ve been using.Quote:

It wont get rid of rattle that is induced by timing. Timing rattle will be louder than most things and you wont hear the difference like the guys here are stating with standard setups.Quote:
