Hi All
This might be a stupid question but, tyre deflators will let the air out automatically to a preset pressure, is there an opposite device? A tyre inflator that cuts out at a preset pressure when inflating? Basicly you don't need to keep checking with a tyre gage, just attach the device to the air hose then to the tyre valve, walk away and let it do its job.

Unfortunally only at servos. Some have air stations you can dial a pressure and it will stop when that is reached. A portable device wouod be a bonus if you are on/off road all the time.
Great idea for a new product for someone eh,,
Just get one of those ARB inflators, or similar, with the gauge on the unit itself. Just takes a lift of the thumb off the trigger and it shows the pressure...

Some tyre shops did have what was called a "Green ring valve stem".
An Aussie invention, looked like a normal tubeless valve that was fitted to the rim the same as a regular tubeless valve.
After inflating the tyre to the correct pressure you could turn the stem so the green ring could be seen.
If the pressure dropped, the green ring could not be seen. The green ring would appear again when you inflated again.
Not sure if they are still available.
Best to ask a tyre shop
You can get those one that replace the valve cap but chances are they would get knocked off.

I do heaps in the time that my tyres are inflating.. Clean the lights/mirrors/windows, put the snatchy away if it's not dirty, wind in winch rope, put any rubbish or whatever in a bag, socialize with others, etc.
Plus, means I'm not huddling over for a valve that's at the bottom leading to a sore back.
Mine has a clip on chuck, and I've got a digital pressure gauge that I use and just clip em on off every now and then. I know roughly when I'm close to pressure.
That said, would be great to be able to set 38psi and walk away, and when I hear the relief open up, time for the next wheel.
If you want to go "auto" for the vast majority of 12 volt jobbies then you will need an adjustable pressure regulator and switch.Quote:

If you don't have that the compressor will just run it's guts out while you are dicking around elsewhere and not needed and either overheat or exceed it's duty cycle.

How do you get around the 'having to turn it off to read the right pressure' aspect?
As in, I've never had a gauge that was accurate when the compressor was still pumping, always have to turn it off first to be even close.

You can buy them for different pressures,
The Green Ring was invented by a Sth Aussie guy maybe around 1989 -1990. (I think his name was John Van Leeuwen)
They were to replace the std valve, had nothing to do with nitrogen.
I had some on a vehicle about 15-18 years back, but as mentioned, not sure if they are still available.

You'd need a normally closed switch of some sort that you could manually adjust to your desired pressure. If one does exist, which I assume would. Then wire this in to the compressor's power supply and have it set to open the circuit when the desired pressure hits. Somehow. Lol.Quote:
