Fuse box help needed...

Hi guys,

I want to clean up all the auxiliary battery wires that are clogging up my battery, previous owner just kept adding to battery terminals. Got one of these basic blade fuse boxes, I'm mounting it in the centre console for easy access to fuses.

Main question is how to earth these things? Can I rely on the earth from each individual accessory, and just run one main positive lead to the box attached to each fuse slot on one side of the box?

Not running anything heavy duty through this, mainly just LEDs, gauges etc. Any help would be awesome.

That type of fuse block does not require earthing. It is designed to have a fuse on the active supply wire. ( positive power from the battery, fuse in the middle, fuse protected positive supply to device )

Cheers Bigcol! That Baintech unit looks damn good! For now I'm only running about 6 fuses for various things but once I build my drawer system I reckon that will be the go!! That way I can mount it somewhere with more space. For now though that top picture will be a great reference for me!

I have a small one like the one at the top, it is under my glove box, with fuses for the UHF, DVD head rests, and Reversing Camera power
I have a Baintech one on my Cargo Barrier
it has the Amp, 2 x Fridge sockets, 1 x 800W inverter and 2 x ciggy sockets


I thought I had pic's on this puter of them - maybe not...................

If you already have the fuse box then you could just add this earth bare close to the fuse box as well. Then all your earth and power is in the same spot. I got this from Jaycar for $15 and is great.

I like the look of that earth block! Better than running earths all over the body of the truck.

I agree and all the connections are in one spot so trouble shooting is made easier as well

Found this on another Forums and i did it today :) Fold the tabs down on one side and solder them all together to some big wiring (example: 6B&S) Makes everything look so neat :) Easy to do and looks great :)

Nice one stirlo! That's what I'll most likely do with mine. I was just gonna drill all the tabs so I could put one wire through and solder up.

yer otherwise just fold all tabs but not the last one. put 2-3 cable ties to hold it in place and then solder like crazy, then fold the last tab over the tab of the wire. - that is what i did :P

Just BE SURE TO USE A INLINE FUSE ON IT! Between the battery and the fuse box use a maxi fuse or circuit breaker. Example: If you have a 8 slot fuse box all 8 slots coming off a single soldered cable (photo above) and all things are 10amp fuses. thats 80amps if all are turned on at once. Keep it inmind guys and be safe! I use a Maxi Fuse 100amp to protect it :)

Fuses are to protect cables, so make sure that your Fuses are suitable for the cables

True :) Fuse types depend on cable types/sizes :)

Yeh I will inline fuse it. Although several auto sparkies I talked to said not necessary if its an auxiliary battery running just LED's and a fridge all earthed and fused correctly... Mind you I do live in the Kimberley so safety is of no great worry up here haha

Yep. That $5 fuse could be the difference between just blowing a fuse, or starting a fire in the car...

This is exactly the unit I have. Best money spent on 12V. Keeps stuff neat and tidy. On my grenade I had one under the hood for front lights, compressor etc... And one at the rear for fridge, camping lights etc... Willl be wiring up a similar setup this time around again.
