Thanks Jonathan and everyone else for you thoughts. I was quite close to her. She was a widow for the last 22years and lived alone until she was 100. She lived throught world wars. Italian born, married a Yugoslave and lived in Austria managed to escaped boarding one of the death trains to Auschwitz only by chance of befreiending a German soldier with their families home made Scnapps, the solder was at the gate when her and her family were being hearded onto the trains and he recognized them and told them to board a different train. a coupleof years later they resided in Triest, Italy, then in the 50's, moved to Australia.
I used to go to her house most Sundays to mow the lawns and keep the gardens nice. Then sit down for lunch and listen to her strories of her life. Telling me of her childhood, like walking for an hour in 2ft deep snow to get to school and being wet and cold the whole day. My grandfather working as a translator for the German army.
She was a fantastic woman. Was a mother of two, grandmother of 5 and great grandmother of 11.
I spent the evening with dad, downing some top shelf booze and just reminiscing. Then my dad told me of his sister already saying she wants to sell our family holiday house down the Peninsula nowthey have half each of the place. Fucking made me wild! Her mother dies at 3:15am today and shes already thinking of the $$$. Her own father built the house with his own hands and she doesn't care about any of it.
So now i have to find a way to buy her share, or something. Rob a bank. Lol.
Sorry, needed to vent about that.
Thanks again for the thoughts everyone.

Wow, that's an interesting
story, mate. It is amazing
that there was a few bottles
of alcohol that made the
difference to your
Grandmother surviving the
war.
Yeah i wish i had recorded all our sunday lunch talks. Would have made for a great book. she said the Schnapps the soldiers loved as it kept them warm in the cold winters. Plus she could also speak German which helped.
she tought me how to make gnocchi too. And my dad makes an awesome strudel. Nonna's recipe.

Very sad news. Feel for ya mate.
Sorry for your loss, Mark. My wife's grandmother passed away a little over a week ago at the age of 83, so I understand a bit of what you're going through now. Our prayers are with you and your family.
Sorry to hear mate. 102 is a good innings, she did better than the Aussie cricket team
Condolences for your loss. People who lived through that period of history experienced things that we can't even imagine.
Condolences to you and your family mate.
Condolences to you and the family Mark,
102 is a very good innings
Thanks again everyone. Its hasn't really sunk in yet that this person that i have seen every week for 41 years I will no longer see.
Its funny though, every birthday for the last 22years she said this is my last year. We always joke about it with her. Her last birthday party we had a couple of months ago, she did not say it. The irony.
