Wonder how much a guard costs if I stuff this up??
well I would say, if your rear draw building skills are anything to go by.................... Then you may need a few bwahahahahahahaha
First thing I'd do is make sure its the correct guard,
I've heard stories of fitters drilling the 5" hole in the wrong guard
Surely not you though, what are you using on the "A" pillar
Good luck mate. Keep the template when your done mate.
Hey! Don't Fark it up :p
You will be right mate, I fitted one with a mate using a 5mm drill bit and a steak knife because he was a tight arse and didn't want to buy a hole saw! And don't hold back on the sealant!
Is it done yet, or have you gone to buy a new guard?
He's already got the guard and waiting for the colour match to dry
Stupid bastard forum runner! I just did the most intelligent helpful post from me ever and the forkn thing crashed while uploading photos!!!!! &@!?EURĄ+*%#
Try again
All done! Without eff ups I think?
The instructions are very vague to say the least, so if you don't feel confident don't give it a go, thinking the instruction manual will get you outta the poop. THEY WONT
Tape up you panel with low tac masking tape. There is a shipload of rust making swarf/chips flying around. I used a rubber coated magnet to run over everything after. Also use ya bloody safety glasses when using the hole saw!!
The template edges weren't close to meeting the panels where they were meant to, but the corners did so I bit the bullet. Hope for the best, expect the worst, and take what comes. Tape it down to mark all the holes, remove template and drill/hack away.
Once all drilled, before removing the tape I filed and painted all holes with touch up paint (inside and out) giving it a few layers.
HINT: Make sure your step drill isn't dull like mine was on the 16mm, I had to put a bit of force into it and dented the panel, it turned out ok as it pulled back when the snorkel was done up. But at the time with only 1 beer, raging hot sun, it stressed me unnecessarily. I also managed to get white overspray on my black plastic guard, so thatll be todays job getting that off.
Don't be shy with the silicone and make sure its sensor safe. Where the snorkel goes through the panel you cant see the connection once installed, you can get your fingers around it just, but it has left that lingering doubt that it is 100% sealed. I used half a tube on this connection and had the shit everywhere.
The connection to the existing air box in my opinion is a bit poor. It buts up and fixed with silicone, again be liberal with it to get that good seal.
In all the hardest part is probably getting the headlight assembly and airbox out and back in without busting anything
Nup no pics forum runner crashes whenever I try BASTARD
good stuff now for the pics,
Must be daunting drilling a 5" hole in a perfectly good guard
Guy who did mine used an air hacksaw

Bloody forum runner crashes when I try putting pics up
That'd be right take a rushed foter and it works
Just gotta clean up the overspray now :)
Try another pic
So what about the inside, where's the pics of the inside man?
Awesome. Almost gives me the confidence to do this myself... Almost...
About to do this deed myself on a 4.5L GU with a safari snorkel, and best of all no need for any silicone except for drain hole under air filter. Just waiting on 111mm hole saw which is in the post.
I actually bought the silicone before I got the snorkel but the instructions do not mention using a sealing silicone at all (except for maybe sealing drain plug under air filter) in the install which I thought was strange.
I would leave that drain plug unsealed. Water can not come up it
When I put the safari on my GQ it said to block that drain hole
I siliconed this one as well
In my instructions it says "up to the installer to decide whether to seal or not", I think I will seal it anyway just to be safe.
I don't envy you of that job. I have an upcoming one in my GQ sometime this year. I think the worst part will be the drilling as I hate drilling in cars.
Your finished product looks pretty solid. Nice job.
I have to do this soon and the hint i am getting here is Silicon. I am nervous about putting a hole in the side of the troll though.
