Inline with the barb on the turbo and just below oil level :p
I dont like rubber!
Really I cbf'd searching lol!
I might not be fitting the turbo otherwise I would've lined it up that way. I was planning on tapping it next to the sump plug, should be low enough.....
Neither do I

Ha ha. Very good!! :)
You would be surprised. I wasn't joking.
It works fine either way really. But I have had the sump off a few of these now and the sump alone can just hold 10L to the very brim (have tested with water).
It is all good the only really thing is that the drain is completely free to flow. So straight down is best :).
Usually what happens is when the motor is off the oil level is pretty much to the sump gasket but when the motor is running the oil level drops abit. If the oil level is over the drain the oil in the hose could fill up the tube and cause the oil seals in the turbo to fail
Cheers guys,
Just assumed the oil level would have been a bit lower but when you think about it 10 litres is a fair bit. Yeah im sure it would work both ways as long as its going straight down. Guess I've just seen them put in without dropping oil or taking off sump.
Ok just to show some of the science involved with the turbo oil drain, this is the general rule.Attachment 50627
Now acording to my service book there are two types of sumps for the td42 in a gq, one has a 7ltr capacity and the other is 10.5, this one has the 10.5. That capacity is usually to the windage tray or just above so the big ends of the crank don't get a restriction from the oil itself while its rotating.
This is the full mark on the dipstick which is about 2" from the sump gasket

This is where the turbo drain will drain from into the sump
Attachment 50625
And this is where it will sit inside the sump itself, notice how much higher it is over the windage try

I'll post up the final result later on
on my q the turbo oil return goes in via the motor ill try and get a picture of it
Tadaaaa!!!

Looks almost factory!!
Hey guys
where do you buy that barb from? I am soon turboing mine and cant seem to find any barbs like it..
Cheers
Any decent industrial suppliers/hydraulics shop would have one
Yep Pirtek and Enzed etc.

Cheers guys
Do I need it steel so it can be welded to the sump?
