The Patrol has six stud hubs. A Tvan I may be interested in is fitted with 5 stud hubs & 100 series Landcruiser wheels. How easy/difficult would it be to swap hubs to suit the Patrol & what might be a ball park amount to allow for the cost of doing this (not including new rims/tyres)?
Shouldnt be that big a deal Cuppa, you may be able to just fit up the outer hub if the wheel bearing match. At worst its and axle swap.
Ta. It’s the possibility of an axle swap which concerns me, I’ve been told that if that’s required it could get expensive (bearing in mind Track Trailer pricing).
I changed my hubs on my trailer to suit patrol 6 stud pattern in 2013 and it cost me just over $200.
I went for a cheap option from eBay but the hub itself was a very solid bit of gear. I didn't install the electric brake bit as it wasn't needed but its good for spares on my caravan.

You wouldn't have to change the axle and only change the bearings to suit asxle type(39/40/45/50mm).If you need to change bearings, get some proper Jap bearings and keep these as spare

You didn`t state if it had brakes, but it`s not a problem as all you need to do is change hubs and if it has electric brakes the hub drum assemblies are not that expensive. The only time it gets exy is if it`s got 12inch brakes as the hub and drums are not cast as one piece. Sounds like it`s all starting to come together.

Chances are its only got Holden or Ford bearings, from memory the 6 stud axle and brake set up on my camper was
less than $700. I would check first what bearings it has then you can go to any trailer shop and get some 6 stud hubs.
I don't know how to post s link , and realise they are in qld , but you can download their catalog , contains all prices and range Active Trailers is the company , my hubs were $130 a pair for ten inch including bearings , go the ford bearing if not using the cruiser size as they have a higher rating than the holden bearings ,

Speak to Ballarat trailers & Towbars in Carngham Road, they probably have what you'll need in stock (cheaper than the others in the area). Go-Towin is another one in Peel St Sth. nice and friendly and happy to give free advice.
You could even ring A-Van and discuss a change over for a small fee.
They could re use your 100s hubs with new bearings.

I asked on the TVan forum & got told
"Depends if the 100 series is an IFS or RFS ( technically then a 105 series), if it is a solid front axle model then it is just swapping the hubs from 5 to 6 stud models. If it is the IFS model then the offset is different so the axle length on the Tvan will be longer then what is needed for the patrol so it will cost a lot more. So instead of being approx $500ish it would be probably $2-3K, all numbers are only guesses, you would need to ring Track for exact numbers, but they will need to know which 100 set up it is from.”
I have asked the seller for more info.
Not sure of brake hub size, but they have ‘electric off road’ brakes.
Brakes would more than likely be 10"[250mm]
$2-3 K is ridiculas just for an axle with brakes
a 40mm x 40mm solid axle with brakes is very easy to fit
take a heap of measurements an head down to the trailer place and have a yac , do not mention $2-3K
complete set up is only $500 and that's using the good stuff, sell the old axle on ebay to recoup some $$$$
lots of ppl building campers or offroad trailers.
I suspect that parts would have to come from the manufacturer (Track Trailers) to suit the asymetric set up?
that's a different kettle of fish, from memory coming from the dark side the 100s have a very deep dish on the rims
IMO you need to change that part with the hub on to suit a 6 stud set up or
shop for something with compatible hub set up.

It will be just changing the hub drum combination to 6 stud if 10inch but if 12 inch the hub and drums are separate and the drum is fitted and held on by the wheel studs. No axle change or any other stuffing around all you do is order the hub -drum to suit your bearings ,IE Holden ,Falcon, Parallel. My Caravan runs 3 ton rated bearings in a 12 inch combo which are a little bit bigger than normal 12 inch but these are still off the shelf. Just pull a hub off and take to a recommended trailer manufacturer and in 5 mins he should have it sorted Good luck mate

Do you know how the electric brakes work, if they are 10" I think you'll be able to just buy new drums. Hard to explain but most have a magnet that attaches to the inside of the drum face when current is applied. This causes the drum brakes to apply, I'll give you a call and you can come over and have a look.
I think I need to do some more research. The Tvan I have seen advertised is a fair drive from here, so I’ll probably give that one a miss (am in no rush), but buying second hand, unless I find one which has been towed by a Patrol the same issues will arise.
Cuppa, I work for AL-KO who make electric brakes and drum hubs, it is no problem at all to change the drum hub over from 5 stud to 6 stud. There is only 2 or 3 bearing types it will be and hub drums are available in all bearing types, brakes sizes with all stud patterns. No axle changing required and it will be cheap and very easy to do.

Yes that is possible cuppa but a quick google tells me that Landcrusier 5 stud are 0 offset standard, whats your GU? -13? I would be pretty confident in saying its not going to cause a issue, and if it does its on the outside so a quick wheel flare modification should have you all sorted.
