Just curious what sort of economy the td42t's get after seeing the meet up in the middle thread. I would like to know what they get around town, on the highway etc

I normally get around 13L/100 just driving around but lately has been about 12L/100
Fully loaded on the Simmo trip I was getting 15L/100
And your running your 33's all the time yeah winnie??
I get on 14l/100 on average, that's running on 33s, mix of town/highway/offroading
I get 12.5-13/100 with 33's. 14-15/100 with the canopy on.
Before I modified it the best I got was 10.5/100 on 265 highway terrains.
Feck! Those figures are on par with my ZD30!!!!
265s will give you great fuel figures , downside is your Patrol looks like a skate board
Just did my first full tank mixed driving on 33's 14.6 L per 100km must say being a little heavy footed as it's only been my car fir 2 weeks
yours would look so wrong lol
Comparing zd30s up at the simmo we were close on par Mark.
When I bought mine NA I was getting 10.8L/100. When I turbo'd it 13psi unintercooled , stock pump 120rwhp it rose to 12.4L/100, next tune same turbo, W2A cooler 12mm pump 207 rwhp it dropped to 11.5L/100. Now with a new turbo same cooler, pump etc it has jumped to 15.4L/100.
I can drop this though, my pump was set up for the old turbo, tune etc, and the new turbo boosts higher at highway speeds. It is over coming the compensator spring so I am almost dumping in full fuel.
If I get a new compensator pin and change the spring, and try and get more travel out of the pin I should be able to grind a new pin profile and regain some fuel efficiency
Was getting 12/100 on 265,s. Just uped the wheels to 285/75's so will see how it goes. Do mainly highway driving
Thanks everyone for your replies, it certainly is making me second guess the original conversion i was going to do.
what do you mean feck there on par with a zd30 there all better than what I get. the reason I got a zd was for fuel economy after talking to a few blokes the best they were getting was 18 to 20 from there 4.2s. all I can say is faaaaaark me dead said forskin ned the old bastard from the bush.
Best of both worlds George, twin turbo V8 diesel!!!
I think Marks have adaptor plates/kits for a Viper V10 conversion.
Instead of changing your motor why not think about doing a Portal axle swap,
combined with two diff locks would see you go many places normal 4x4s couldn't
Your too generous Pete, thanks for funding that little project!
Well funny you should say that. The duramax conversions getting around are getting figures between 12-14/100. 400hp and 1000+nm of torque from a turbo 6.6 v8 commonrail diesel what's not to like :).
Have said that we can modify a TD42 to produce in the area of 300hp and still get 15/100 or less.
Realistically talking with our hands off our bollocks lol, i don't need that sort of power. I like to build my cars to be used thats why i have a toy to thrash around. I need to make the trol practical and reliable for how i use it which is towing the boat ( a bit over 1t) and a trailer full of firewood ( around 2t), wheeling is a bonus.
To put it into perspective a duramax conversion would be around 35k, a td42 and ls1/ls3 10 - 15k. Personally i aint spending more than 10k on my trol hahaha!!
Don't forget that the figures given so far are from lighter GQ's. I drive Miss Daisy and rarely give it some unless needed (on sand), most hwy driving I tend to stick around 100kph as that seems to be the sweet spot on my td42.
Now driving the tb42, that's a different kettle of fish all together, crap economy no matter what, where or how I drive so it's foot down and go :D
My 14.6 l/100 is from a 2005 td42i wagon with 280 000km on the clock this next tank is looking at mid 13's as I haven't been getting up her.
Mine is a 99GU but I drive like an old b@stard these days and am not too heavy on the pedal. I have very little to no traffic and roadsmare 80 to 100 kmh for 90% of the run. I alternate between adding 2 stroke oil in one tank, followed by injector cleaner each 20k. Not sure that helps but it keeps the girl a little cleaner.
The uts arn't that much lighter, when I bought mine full of fuel with me in it it was 2.6t
Maybe you need to lay off the krispy kremes Bene lol! :D
Yep last time I put mine on the weigh bridge with an empty tray, 2 occupants and half a tank of diesel it came back at 2.7t
G'day Alitis,
I have got a 2001 GU 4.2 turbo diesel Patrol wagon and I get 13 litres per 100ks with 2inch lift, steel full length ARB roof rack, with all the bells and whistle's on travelling on all-terrain 33's.
With my trip down to Victoria at Christmas time fully loaded with my wife and three children, aircon on and sitting on 110ks, I was getting between 16-17 litres per 100ks.
Regards,
PMC
Before I modified it the best I got was 10.5/100 on 265 highway terrains.
Wow! Fully loaded under the same circumstances my TB42 gets 20-24L per 100km (depending on terrain). That's really surprising.....
Mind you I can get nowhere near those unloaded figures while just tooling around in it.......like Clunk suggested, it doesn't seem to matter how I drive it.....it's always thirsty......Anyway, play on......
