Welcome to the forum. Nice shot.
Take care out there.
Ross
DX grunt
You just had to come over and ruin everyone else's street cred with your 'legal monster truck' didnt you slowzuki? hahahaha welcome.
Good to see you on here.
I followed your build up on the other forum, and like a lot of others, I wish I could afford a set of portals like that.
To save me checking back on the other forum, is that a Millweld bar?
Tony
Very nice Pat
Yes it is. A Millweld Commercial bar, mate.

Those Portals look great mate, Got to say the front bar is tidy as too. Wonder what it would look like on the front of a GU IV??
Nice looking truck Pat.
Is it a TD42? Also what are the portals, are they unimog?
No, they're all Australian. Mark's 4WD Adaptors.

http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/a...i/PICT3380.jpg
Oh, and yes it is a 4.2 TDI...........12/06 actually.
He seems to have a good reputation this Mark bloke, must do a good job over there!
It was a big build and I would not have entrusted it to anyone else.
Pat that is one nice build mate....Keep them pics coming.
Cheers
Paul
OK Couple more. This is the gear reduction inside the portal box.
http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/a...i/PICT3326.jpg
And with bigger bearings in situ, just waiting for cover plate.
http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/a...i/PICT3328.jpg
That is interesting?? that is the first time i have seen inside a portal, thanks for that. It looks like they change your gearing slightly?? is that so?
Got to ask also.. Did you fit these when the car was new or did you just respray the diff housing and seriously detail the car before the pics?? bloody clean mate. Looks great.
The original assemblies fabricated by Mark were 1.4:1, designed with the comps. boys in mind. There is now the option of 1.22:1, which I have. This reduction strengthens the axles, CVs etc. by 20%.The cleanliness is a measure of the care taken by the boys at Mark's. The truck was delivered with 170,000 km on the clock but detailed from caryard.
what kind of revs are you pulling at 100kms/h? is that ratio 20% taller than standard?
I didn't realise that they had a ratio alteration built into them as well, i thought they were all about clearance only.
Nice bit of Kit though.
That's a great looking rig Pat. Those portal axel setups are fantastic ( I am so jealous...lol). I would love to see a few more photo's.
My RPM with 315/75x16s is 70 revs. higher than standard. Hub ratio is 1.22:1 as against 1:1 standard, so 20% lower.

Just checked whilst out driving--2100RPM @ 80 kph and 2600RPM @ 100 kph.
Thats a Really Really Nice Truck!
I've read about those portal boxes on marks website.
I can't wait till we're allowed to import patrols to the states.
Why arn't you allowed to import them over there?
Mate, I love your rig.
It's like mine but yours is on steriods....love it!!!!!!!!
Inspiring ++++
I want the name of the detailer!!! damn that is a clean truck!! looks like it has 100kms on it straight off the boat.. The underside is nuts mate!
your revs are nearly identical to mine running 35s with 4.6s.
Love the wheels mate, where did you get them? how much were they? what offset are they? are they steel or alloy?
Nice Rig.
Cheers MudRunner

They are modified by Mark's 4WD and are 16x8. Custom made positive offset to gain some reduced track with the portal assemblies. $250.00 ea. using my rims. They are powder coated as well.
Just sailed over to Shepparton 4WD this weekend to collect our Trayon camper. Back in Tassie now. About to start living the dream!

Nice camper. U got the name of the website that makes them?
Yesmate. www.trayon.com
Cheers Pat, I was thinking of getting one for my ute.
Is your's going to be permanently on the tray or just chuck it on when needed.
Do you need a forklift to get it on and off?
If you look closely, you will see a bracket on each corner. Wind down legs fit in here, and allow you to leave the camper freestanding and simply drive out from under it. It's brilliant.
Brilliant!!!
Only reason is ask is my mate made one to put on his rodeo and it has to be forked on.
He has a 5 tonne excavator he uses but its a nightmare.
wind down legs, ripper idea!
Hey Portal Pat, that is one sweet ride mate, you are going to have a bloody great trip to anywhere you want to go in that mate!! what a rig!
Thanks Mudrunner. Yeah, nearly there. When building it the desired outcome was to end up with a "hardcore tourer". Pretty sure we achieved that! More HIDs, an undertray slide out gearbox, window tinting, roofrack...........shit, it never ends ,does it? LOL.
Bought another pair of HIDs, spotties this time to compliment the existing spread beams. Windows tinted and windscreen antiglare strip and Thule roofbars fitted ready for a custom alloy rack. A roofrack might seem superfluous on a flattray, but not when the camper is fitted. Got a sheetmetal worker fabricating an undertray slideout draw as well.
