Fuel Drain Plug Leaking Still - AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH

Hi guys,

wondering if anyone has this problem and/or knows how to fix it, leaking drain plug on my LWB wagon diesel tank.

Nissan manual simply says "packing material" and does not give me a washer type.

What type of washer if any?

Anything I can use on the plug threads to help get a seal (ARF ARF)

you would use an annealed copper washer wouldn't you.
like a squash washer, or heaps of Teflon tape until you get a proper washer

I thought copper, but before I go draining my tank again, was looking for info. Maybe teflon and copper until it leaks, might get a few years, love more feedback

Anyone have an actual answer? Love to get this sorted for once and for all!

Yep I used a copper washer and Teflon tape. I assume you mean the drain on the bottom of the tank?

Dowdy washer :). It's like a washer with a rubber seal bonded to it.

A copper washer is what is on the engine sump plug, wouldn't that work on a fuel tank?
Are the surfaces of the tank and plug flat and undamaged?
Are you sure the thread or weld around the drain is not cracked? Your leak might be from somewhere else.

Hey come to think of it! You are right Newby,I think mine have a rubber ring in it, only had it out once for other reasons.

Yes as Newby stated the washer is as he described. Also Teflon Tape is a winner for me.

If telon tape doesn't work there is a thread sealing compound you can get from supercheap had to use it once on a banjo bolt for a turbo oil line once . As I couldn't get a good seal with the copper washers
Some times depending on the material steel or alloy the threads can stretch

Just order a new washer of Mr Nissan.
Beware of price before you tell them to get it for ya.

stag is the name of the thread sealing compound or any gas sealing compound
can get from plumbing supplies store
you could even undo plug half way and wind heaps of thread tape inbetreen tank and plug then tighten then
you dont need to drain
