Not long ago I purchased my first ever Nissan Patrol.
I've already apologised to the Mrs for the future obsessions and wallet emptying to come!!
Luckily she likes the outdoors and fishing too.....

Welcome aboard mate, look into the nads info on here
lots to read and plenty of help
Bring it on, let the games begin, $$$$$$$ lol
See you have performance issues already, so IMO I'd be putting my NADS together
starting with Boost and EGT gauges on pillar pod or similar
New injectors ordered and going in this week, MAF sensor all cleaned, catch can going in, EGR getting blocked off right now, snorkel fitted, suspension being checked and sorted right now (it has a 3 inch lift that I want to be sure is safe and functional, foam cell shocks all round maybe the solution...), all seats except the driver and passenger ripped out (more room for interior mods!)new steering dampener put on right now, new stereo and 4 new speakers installed, new 16 inch steel rims and GT Komodo muddies installed, wheel bearings serviced and repacked, new brake rotors/ pads ordered ready for installation when they arrive, secondary fuel tank lines ripped out and replaced.......
I reckon that's a good start for this month, the missus says I can spend more next month and September's only 2 days away...........
The rest of the NADS setup is definitely the next item on the agenda! I figure there's no point in being shy about spending $$$ on the machine that's going to take us all over Australia when the build is complete!
I was thinking of removing all the plastic flaring around it and smoothing off all the panels. Has anyone done this/ seen it done? If so, does anyone have any photos? and don't worry, I'm not making it pretty then only going on sealed roads - this Patrol will be out amongst the chaos somewhere every weekend! (and our NT wet season is just around the corner........)
Welcome mate and good to see you hooking into it..
Jump in and enjoy all the info and top members this place has.
Cheers
You'll need the plastic flares to keep it legal, other wise your tyres
will stick out to far, You should know coming from the Territory to KIS
Are you sleeping in the rear on a false floor, could have drawers that open through the passenger doors
and two that open from the rear
Thanks for that!
I like the interior idea you've given me, I'll look into a build along those lines for sure. I'll be doing the interior myself to save $$ for other more important bits.
And I'm not from the Territory, I'm just living here and enjoying the hell out if right now!
I'm looking forward to getting her all built and done, then off into the bush we'll go! or the beach, or the desert, or the........
if you look in the DIY section there are plenty of build threads on storage
to give you ideas on how to best use the rear space available.
don't you love a place when it gets to 27 they say its cold lol
absolutely! and when it gets to 17 its the lowest temp it's been in 40 years!
I've ordered the 2 gauge pillar now, and I'll be off to get my gauges tomorrow so my mechanic can install them as part of his current scope of works......which seems to keep growing........
Dawes Valve ordered, needle valve ordered, injectors have arrived and are being installed, EGR now blocked, catch can (quality one with built in filter system) ordered and arriving Thursday at my mechanics to be installed. 2 gauge pillar being ordered when I remember my trim code (or get to the mechanics to find the letter I need on the plate in the engine bay) gauges being sourced now because Darwin has not a lot in that department......
So I'm slowly getting there, I just hope it's ready soon so I can head out in it for some camping and fishing before it gets to hot up here!
I'll put some photos up once she's out of the workshop!
My thanks to all of you who've helped along the way so far, this forum is proving to be an invaluable tool for this build and I look forward to gathering much more advice as the journey continues......
Cool waiting to see if injectors fixed your prob.
So am I! I really hope that those combined with the NADS solves it, otherwise it's back to the drawing board!
Well I got the Patrol back (the dawes, and needle valves are yet to be installed as is the catch can, gauges and EGR blocker, it'll go in for these installs when ALL the parts are here) and some good news, and bad news.
The injectors have made a massive difference and it now drives like a Ferrari (except tougher!) There was also a burnt out solenoid hampering performance so this got replaced too and a full service was undertaken.
Now just on Sunday I was going along at 100kph using cruise control and it lost power and went into limp mode, slowing down to about 80kph. When I turned cruise control off and put the accelerator down again, it got back up to speed.
Has anyone else had this happen? If so what was the cause? Was it the throttle? the cruise control? any advice is welcome!!
Will this bugger off once I have installed all the bits mentioned above?
I've also ordered all new hoses for the engine area too......
Yes, I would think once you take control of boost away from the ECU you should be fine.
Need your gauges fitted first then as you fit /modify stuff you'll be able to monitor any changes
cause is over boosting and going into limp mode
Thank you for that. The gauges will be the first things installed for exactly that reason. Reading on here it seems to be that 10psi @2000rpm is a desirable level of boost. Is this correct?
Guess what just arrived at my place????!!!
Yeeeehaaaaa!!!!!
Did you get the new heavy duty spring with your Dawes? Made a big difference in mine.
If its not, I've got a spare one here you can have
very good information
Well the next stop for my Patrol is unfortunately likely to be off a cliff top as it's doing my head in and costing waaay to much to be justified now.
I've done NADS, all new hoses, new radiator, new thermostat, injectors, coolant flush, replaced MAF and it's still playing games with me. It's cost me well over $5000 so far and coolant is still disappearing at an unexplainable rate. There is definitely no external links and there is no steam out the exhaust, no milkyness anywhere in the oil or coolant, so where to now? And my cruise control has stopped working. It's looking like it maybe a cracked head and if that's the case then goodbye Pat unfortunately.
Yesterday it went to a new level when she went Engine warning light on, then wouldn't go anywhere in 1st (even after switching it on and off and making sure the coolant levels were as they should be) It's now at my mechanic again (I feel like I only get to borrow it on the weekends now) and I've just about hit my limits $$ wise. It's a damn shame really as I thoroughly enjoy my Patrol when she's running well, it's just now getting to hard to justify the expense of owning it.
The latest code is for the TPS so that will be fixed, but the big problem (and it has been being worked on for a long time now to fix) is where is all the bloody coolant going? There is now no evidence there is an internal OR external leak so what's going on? It may be a case of patch it and trade it!
Mind you, if I get rid of this I'll be buying another Patrol as I think they're awesome rigs- just not a ZD30 that's for sure as this one has put me off this engine for life!!!
Damn shame.
A few things i'd be checking
1. Have you done a pressure test on the coolant system? Is it holding pressure?
2. Is your engine oil milky or thinned out / discoloured (other than sooty black colour)?
3. Is there any sign in the engine bay of a leak (radiator cap / expansion bottle / cracked hoses )
4. Is your passenger floor wet? A sign that the heater core is holed, the coolant will drain down into the passenger foot well.
I would also check your malfunction codes as several codes can lead to bigger problems, but it may be a simple solution??????
