Setting up an air tank, need advice

Hey guys turning my rock sliders into an Air tank hopefully will have a decent capacity on the too being 65mm tube.

What is required for this to happen, I have a thumper air compressor 160/L p/min which will be hard wired in then I will run a line from this to a 'T' piece under the cab where it will divert into each slider.

What is required to get the compressor to cut off at a certain Psi and what Psi would you recommend? I assume I need a pressure switch and if so where in the system does it fit in/how is it wired in? If there is anything else you suggest I do please let me know

You need a 100psi pressure switch ,a manifold with a one way valve to hold pressure.

I use these for diff breather kits but you can go up to 10 mm IYL
How are you pressure testing sliders ?
Also you may want to have F/R air outlets

Not to put you off but I don't like the idea as to me it makes it more venerable to rupture and failure.
Think of a flat balloon. Take a fork to a flat balloon, pretty boring as bat shit. Sure might put a whole in it but nothing happens.. Now blow it up and take a for to it.. And Im pretty sure I read that the average balloon is sub 1psi above atmosphere.. Now you wanna put 100psi into steel..

Just food for thought.

Yo TD thanks for that mate makes things a lot easier for me but the pressure switches I have seen have 2 males connectors on the end for 12v female connectors.. I'll have another look.

I understand where you are coming from westy but I built the sliders from 65od 5m thick steel steam pipe I don't see it failing me and it was welded togther with an arc for better penetration if you still feel this wont work let me know :)

G.day, brw1994. Another problem would be moisture build up in the rocksliders. It could cause them to rust from the inside out. As for welding them without "pressure vessel certification', I doubt whether insurance would cover you if something went wrong.

It'll work, for sure. But just use caution if they get dinged up.

Get them zinc coated or gal dipped to prevent moisture from rusting them out from the inside ( it would take a while for it to rust out anyway due to the wall thickness of the steel, but it is better to do it right first up, and then they will last ).

I wouldn't be too worried about the repercussions of a rupture or the event of one. When pressure testing fridge pipes (410a) they are pumped up to 2500kpa/ 325psi (roughly). I know that if I take a happy gilmore run up and hit it with a hammer, it won't rupture.

Obviously the copper will dent a flatten due to its malleability, wild steel will do the same when you drop 2.5tonne on it.

Thanks for all the replies fellas, as for insurance I am bomb isnured so not stressed about that, the rusting issue was one I had already thought about and I was thinking of tipping some Killrust primer in their giving it the old swirl around and letting it sit to dry for a few days to give it a fighting chance and appreciate the diagram!

Another added bonus is once they are on you can pump healium into them and make the car a whole lot lighter. Lol.....

Will be interested to know how you go as I have thought bout doing the same, how much extra weight is there going to be though???

In between tank and pump You'll need a one way valve to
hold your pressure other wise it will escape back via your pump.
Cheap to buy any plumbers shop will sell them. Personally I'd put
a hotdog pressure tested tank on the side of the chassis rails if only for Lockers and tyres.
Safety first and no ifs in the back of your mind, Stripping the tank and pump out
of my old 4x4 and I'll post up pics for you.
