Window tint laws and regulations

On my vehicle, I have the darkest legal window tint (according to the tinters) on my front two windows and I have the very dark tint around the rest of the car.
A mate of mine asked me about it and said when he enquiries about it through insurance companies, that it is illegal to have darker than legal tint on ANY window on the vehicle in Victoria.

According to what I have found out (but not gospel) is WA and another state(cant remember think NSW) can have darker tint on window other than the front two.

Can anybody shed any light to my findings, or know the law specifically.

cos if its the case I will not be covered by insurance, IF I have an anal assessor.

One Asian tinting place says " NO WALLIES" only flunt two windows must be legal. Doesn't madder udder. "

The "law" was changed last year on November 1st, its WAS darkest legal tint for the FRONT 2 and REAR windows no darker then 22% light visibility. Now the it is if you have a mirror on each front door, the tint on those two doors must not be darker than 35%, the windows behind the driver can be painted if you wanted BUT, if your cars doesn't have an external mirror on the passenger side front door the rear window has to be 35% aswell.

Not sure how you found new laws as of last year.
The legislation is from 2009 and hasn't been changed since.

Yeh sorry mate it was November 2009 i might be getting mixed up with something else...

But on VSI 2 under the heading "Windows" it says "Note" " Windows above or behind the driver's seating position on some busses are not in the driver's field of view and need not comply with the above with light transmittance requirements" combined with some information from other VSI's is where i got my information from. And your thinking i don't have a bus i have a car, well the Vehicle Standards Information or VSI complies to vehicles under 4.49t.

Nothing like national laws!!!!

So my interpretation of the above is I am driving an unroadworthy vehicle.
So in actual fact, Nissan handed me a brand new unroadworthy Patrol, as Nissan did the tint pre-delivery.

Mego worst case is that if you 2 front door windows are 35% your roadworthy, if they are darker worry about it if and when you get defected pr need to get a RWC.

The fronts are legal and roadworthy and I doubt very much that it will get picked on by cops or insurance companies.

If the front 2 are 35% then the whole car is roadworthy, just like i said in my first post and your trol was delivered to you in roadworthy condition.

My driver, passenger and rear are darkest legal,
my cargo tint is limo and
behind driver are above darkest legal
which I'd like limo as well.

The back half of my trol is 15% and soon the front 2 will be aswell. I left them at 80% coz i thought i needed a roadworthy but now i need the time to get them re tinted !

Would have thought all windows behind driver could be as dark as you won’t. ie: panel van with no side windows. PS, Threedogs. Like the roof rack.

I have my front 2 at 35% all side behind driver at 5% and rear at 17%

Was told this was fine. Slightly lighter on the rear was my choice so there was no issue reversing at night

Dunno what % mine are but they're all pretty dark... so nice driving around during the day but at night time I have to put the windows down to reverse.

The NT has quite liberal laws for rear passengers and cargo area's. Had mine done with the darkest legal up here. It really does keep the sun down....
