Hey all im hopefully just about to buy a turbo kit for my 4.2 diesel gq. The kit i'm looking at getting is a denco kit fron opposote lock. Price is $4400 installed including a 3inch exhaust. Does this seem a reasonable price for the kit?

Sounds good, I work in spares and priced a turbo kit for a TD42 and my wholesale price was just on $5000 with GST and freight.
I asked for a price with a egt, boost and pyro gauge and brought it up to $5300. So $900 for gauges. Surely they arnt that expensive if so it puts it out of my price range as i'm not to keen driving it without them, dont want it to go boom.
I wouldnt have thought so. Get them to add the egt sensor point on the exhaust and the rest can be done pretty simply.

Some ppl reckon i'd be better of sourcing the parts myself as it will be alot cheaper thoughts?
Depends how handy you are on the tools. If you are keen to install the kit yourself then it may work out cheaper to put the kit together yourself.
$900 extra for gauges seems extreme. EGT gauge and pyro (pyrometer) are the same thing.
Decent brand pyro will be around $100-$150
And $60-$80 for a boost gauge. Plus fitting obviously.
Where are you located?
i'mm not bad on the tools but as someone has stated i'm on a time limit to have it together and running.
Cowra nsw.
How safe is it going to be to fit the turbo up leave the boost anf fuel alone and drive it over easter. When i get back i can then get gauges myself and tuned properly.
If you want mate i can get you a price with all the gear you want using DTS turbo kit and exhaust and a choice of autometer or vdo gauges ?? But freight will be the only problem i rekon
If that's the case leave ot untill you have time. You will need some way of telling boost levels so yea, do it once, do it right.. start stock piling though..

I can get a turboglide kit with 2.5inch exhaust and tuned for $3790. Seems like a deal but will require a 4hr drive and a weekend at my mums in wollongong. What do u think?
Heres there kit. http://www.turboglide.com.au/turbo-k...ount-turbo-kit . Seems to hav plenty of good reviews.
Replied to ur msg.
This is the kit i will be supplying

Yeh thats the same price as the turboglide but no exhaust, fitting or tune.
Yeh but thats not MY price mate, and you will need to fit it and get a tune but i'm adding gauges aswell and 3" exhaust and i think the TD05 turbo is bigger then the GT28
Fair enough mate. Im not after bulk horsepower just reliable camper trailer pulling power.
Ill have the turboglide kit installed and tuned and 2gauges for 4k. Ill wait fir your price but need to know today as i have to let turboglide know by 2moro morning if i'm going with them.
$3696 + freight is the best i can do for; Turbo kit + 3" exhaust + vdo Pyro and boost i'll get the freight cost in a minute
Freight to that post code is $127.50 and will take up to 3 working days
So i can get a tune done for $150 so with ur price it will be 4k and from all things i have read the dts is better then the turbo glide and the tuner agreed and he sells both kits. Would i be right does this seem a better deal then?
Also he doesnt dyno tune he takes it and tunes it on the td teckons thats the best way to do it.
Also does the exhaust supplied have the bungs for the gauges?
The exhaust does have the bung for the pyro meter.
Weather its a good deal or not, you tell me considering for you to buy the components at a retail price it will be close to 5g's and for a forum special i got an extra $100 off what my supplier normally sells the turbo kit for !!
And apparently after you fit the kit all you need to do is turn up the fuel 1/4 of a turn and thats it!!!
The DTS kit is the MTQ kit mate! Winner and an Awesome Price from George! Good one George.
The DTS kit will come with a 3" Mandrel Bent exhaust if its the same as mine and a 3" is alway better than a 2.5" behind a TD42! a 2.5 should go on the back of a ZD30 or RD28 but not a Turbo Charged TD42!
I can get the kit cheaper but it may work out roughly the same once shipping is added from here.
How hard is it to plumb in a return oil line or do i not need it with this turbo kit? Also will need a turbo timer wont i.
Ok with a massive rhanks to george i have ordered and paid for a dts kit, 3inch exhaust and boost, pyro and water temp vdo gauges. With no turbo timer im guessing i will just hav to let the car idlefor a few min to let it cool yes. Whats a turbo timer worth and who does use one?
Turbo timer around 150. I just sit and wait until pyro is under 200 then turn it off.
If you're happy and you know it tap a post!
No dramas Darren any time mate!
Turbo timers there are a lot to choose from you can go from a very basic and reliable analog style right up to full digital auto counting. I was told by a mate that alot of trucks use the ARE timer and that they very reliable but i have a GReedy full auto timer in my toy which is good coz of how i drive it :) i set it at 1min then the time starts to increase the longer i drive over 3000rpm. Some manufacturers make plug and play looms for the popular cars ie RX7, Skyline, Supra ect so if you wanted you could do a google search for the turbo timer plug and and play loom for your Q and also go to a Autobarn have a look at what they stock then look for it on ebay.
I'm here to help, thats why i started that vendor thread yeh!!
I think somebody is having a lend of you, turbo = $700 manifold $350 K&N pod filter $100 nuts bolts hoses etc =$100, gauges from $50 to $150
Exhaust = $550. All this does not add up to $5500. I have just done mine three days ago. All labour mine, about 5-6 hrs, exhaust done by mob down the road from here about 2 K's
There is a huge difference in turbo quality.. my guess you running a oil feed bushed turbo? Not bearing.
The kit mentioned untilises the top mount filter, which allows stock snorkle and filter use, and is up out the way for water crossings, and quality 3" stainless steel zorst.. delivered, bolt on no more to pay..
$5g is a dam good price..

DTS kits use a bush style turbo and so are the high quality units that come out of such places as UFI. While ball bearing turbos have their benefits they also have there downfalls.
The kit is also a 3" mandrel aluminised exhaust not stainless.
While you can do it on the cheap as brisat said thats exactly how you are doing it "cheap". These kits are the go as everything is there you just bolt it on. They use quality components and you can see this is the fittings and casting of the manifold. You have it all there so you get your kit and fit it, no running around getting the right fittings or a hose for this or a bracket for that.
Heres what happens to cheap turbo's
Attachment 27178
I doubt you could get a quality turbo kit for under 2k seeing as a T04z is worth $1900 and the DTS kit has the TD05 which is bigger, the exhaust components to buy separately will cost you roughly $500 plus the manifold, and you still need fittings and hoses. The tachos, boost gauges are cheap around $60 but a good quality pyro will set you back around the $250 mark.
But you could do it cheap if you could get really really good mates rates on a 2nd hand GU setup BUT i don't think you will have change from 2grand and you are buying second hand parts that always have inherit problems from their previous life so for a few extra $$ your buying quality, NEW components and also virtually doubling the value of your vehicle!!
