Where to find rust on a Patrol GQ

Hi,

I suggest this topic to show you the different locations and different stages of corrosion on a SWB-Y60, trying to make some processing solutions, I think you can find similar points on LWB-Y60 .

The front:

Corrosion at fixing body on the chassis:

Repair: Remove the calender process to rust converter, paint, wax penetrate the hollow body in the lower crosspiece.

Battery holder:

Repair: Remove the battery, the converter process, replace the plate with a plate healthy paint, put a plastic tray under the battery and monitor from time to time.

Crankset:

Pitting ranging at break of the half cross-box support, impacting the inner wing at the rear of the front wheel, the location of the feet of the driver and passenger (lack of mats) , water retention under the carpet:

Repair: replace the floor by a sheet sound check half support beam body, treated and painted.

Rocker:

Pitting multiple origin (infiltration, condensation, salt), can climb on the interior floor under the carpet (at the rear passenger's left foot right foot left or right rear passenger).

Repair: alternative sheet sound check half support beam body, process and paint, wax fill hollow body monitor.

The front and rear wings:

Pitting generated by setting the lip fender flares but also by the PVC fender (front wings), a deposit (clay mud, salt, humidity) is on the back of mounting lip side skirts.

Repair: healthy alternative sheet, process and paint, wax injecting hollow body in the rear wing by removing the interior trim situated around the wheel, monitor.

Inside of the rear wing:

Perforating corrosion at the junction of the stiffeners floor with the interior of the wing, at the observation visible fasteners front of and behind the rear carpet on the calves of the rear passengers, corrosion at the bottom of the rear part of the wing (flaps), we can look at the state of the bottom of the rear wing by the taillights.

Repair: Replace a healthy plate, treat and paint seep wax hollow in cross and wings back by fire, watch.

What is history of your SWB, does it come from salty area???

What paint are you using in that first pic? Is it a pressure pack or did you use a spray gun? Love these kinds of threads!

Hi mate, Those SWB were all used in normal conditions, But you need to know that in Europe, when there is snow or ice on road, road workers put salt to destoy the snow or the ice, in fact several old cars models with a basic protection are attacked buy the salt. the most attacked SWB GQ seen by me was a 1996 one with 180 000 km, the frame was as largely perfored as you can pass your hand through the frame...

The paint is a french paint named Hammerite ( http://www.hammerite.fr ) from the group of http://www.akzonobel.com/

Awesome stuff mate, wish I was as good with a body repair as you. Petit in the threads you mention several times "wax penetrate" the hollow body.
Mate could you please enlighten me on a couple of points.

1. What is the type of wax you use?
2. What brand is it ?
3. How is it applied, spray gun or brush ?
4. What purpose is it designed for, and what is the result after using it ?
