Does anyone know if there is still vehicle access to Coxs River Camping Ground in the Blue Mountains (on the 6 Foot Track)?
Went there with a group of friends about 6 or 7 years ago, I do believe we drove through private property to access the camping ground.
Would like to take the missus and kids there for a weekend away :)

Just saw this thread..Might be some help.
I did an enquiry about 6 years ago through the Jenolin Caves Tourist information centre and they gave me some numbers of the land holder by the river. At that point you could even take a van in. I don't have the numbers anymore though.
There is a road leading into the cox's river from the Jenolin cave end. There is a little camp site in the side of the road about 2 or 3 Ks before you hit the turnoff to the caves. There were no gates and it takes you down the 11km hill to the river. As I said it was about 6 years ago though.
May have changed. From the river you can walk to a cool cable bridge. head south.

Apparently you are able to get to the campsite by vehicle. Here is some info on the site itself and they also have contact information in the campsite.

We were at Cox's River campground in September last year. You can still access it and the easiest way (direction wise) is to come in a fair way down the Jenolan Caves Rd and turn left onto the 6 foot track - then you follow those signs all the way into camp. From memory you cross the river 2-3 times. Google maps the camp ground and you can follow the 6 foot track back up to the Jenolan Caves Rd
When we were there we left a different way (though the private property) but I don't recall it well enough to give directions but you end up coming out a lot close to the Great Western Hwy on the Jenolan Caves Rd.
There is some pretty good wheeling out there as well. Overall I reckon it's a great place to stay with plenty of stuff for the lil ferals to do. We will definitely be going back there.

yes you can get access to the camp grounds at the bottom of the cox's river along the six foot track. many years ago i asked one of the rangers about the private property sign on the gate,,, he said and i quote "if you ever come across that f*%in gate locked on the six foot gate wrap a chain around it and rip out and throw it in the bush!!!" the six foot track or that end of it is a gazetted road which i have used more times thatn i care to remember and as such even though it does pass through private land it can not be blocked by the land holders. so go down there and enjoy there are good carp and trout in that river if you into fishing and if your up for and interesting drive there is a hard core track that runs from the start of the pine forest on the jenolan caves road via Mt gibralter and little river valley but it is not for the faint haerted. enjoyQuote:

I wouldn't bother going to the camping area now as they have closed it all off. There is plenty of camping for tents and walkers but those of us that enjoy vehical based camping have pretty much been shut out. It is disgusting, I have been going there for over 20 years.
The owner of the "ECO LODGE" has been complaining and she may be within her rights as there have been some idiots in there tearing the place up.
All the camping area is fenced of so that no vehicals can enter.
If you feel passionate about this please ensure that you phone the Land Managment Authority in Orange on 02 63914300. If enough people complain we might be able to have some more land opened up for us. The river is fenced so you can no longer park down there, if you intend on camping there, take your tent.
thats shocking!!! it was a beautiful camp site!!!! used to love camping there and was thinking of going down there in next 12 months or so for a 4wd trip have some people up here interested in doing it. guess we will be looking for camp sites on top of the range or down in little valley dont like camping on top of the range there as weather can be unpredictable. i will definatly be making a phone call tomorrowQuote:

I emailed Alison from the Six Foot Track Heritage Trust last night, below is what she had 2 say. What a bummer.... another spot in NSW getting closed off :(
Hi Todd,
The trust has only recently installed a post and rail fence around the camping area and along the river. It was installed for the safety of the bushwalkers who are camping as there has been an increase in vehicle visitation, and with this unsociable behaviour and illegal activities. You can at the moment still get through the gate to the north and turn around down towards the river. This gate will be locked at some stage in the future however as it is access to private property. There is still room to park vehicles outside of the camping area but you can no longer drive into the camping area.

man thats sux big time. Im spose to be heading down there for a day trip on the 10th march. I will have to wait and see what happens
That way is not completely banned but because of previous few hazards that way was banned for a time but the complete ban was opened later. I personally have not visited the way but just let you know that i got this news one of my friend/buddy who is living there..So i am not saying this that it is certain and final but i am just passing the information to those who have the same question about that way.
I'm pretty sure its closed off to vehicle access, I can't find the email but I'm sure I emailed them a few months back and Alison said it was now closed
Might head up this way this weekend for a look around. If anyone's in the area....We might do one night at Mt Walker and one in Jenolan SF. Hopefully the tracks will be dried out by then but it will be freezing.

How good is Mount Walker area! I didn't realise it was such a big area with so many tracks. If you like hill climbs and river crossings there are plenty of these to keep you busy. We camped by the river there one night and another night next to Little River in Jenolan SF. The tracks around there have just been graded so there wasn't much in the way of challenging stuff. Not that we saw anyway.
