Just gave them a call and it just rang out. No voice mail. Not a good sign
It has the vin number on the ad so would be easy to work out.
Absolute bargain if it isnt a scam
if i wasnt at work i would go there now to look
Yep I'm hearing you Ben-e if I had 17k I would already be driving it home
Not sure mate, but I can tell you in Nissan Fast the VIN number supplied matches the description of the car, just looked it up
I'm trying to call him. I will go to the bank tomorrow and fly up this week to buy it if all is good. Come home, sell it for 30+ and buy a super GQ!!
My 2 cents worth is it has a reserve on it and hasn't been reached yet? Is it a car yard?????????
Don't mind those headlight protectors either, yawl like me have been sucked in, thats his starting price res around $32K
There is no bloody way........... I just cant see it.
Every time I have seen something like this on ebay it always turns out to be not as it seems or a flat out scam?????

Classified Ads
Classified Ads are available in only a few categories such as the services and franchises category as a means to advertise your item and generate multiple sales leads. This unique format does not enable buyers and sellers to transact online through eBay and is not available for eBay Feedback. However, if the ad has a Best Offer option, you can transact online through eBay.
Classified Ads have the following features:
List your asking price. No bidding takes place.
Interested buyers fill out a contact form, and their information is sent to you.
Revise item description in your listing at any time while it is still active.
Rules
The seller must treat the buyer's contact information in full compliance with eBay's Privacy Policy. This policy prohibits sharing the buyer's information with third parties as well as use of the buyer's information for any purpose other than communicating with the buyer about the item, unless expressly permitted to do so by the buyer. Failure to comply with this policy can result in the seller's suspension or expulsion from the eBay community.
Classified Ads with Best Offer
The Classifieds with Best Offer format is a simple eBay selling solution that takes the hassle and upfront cost out of listing your unwanted household items.
Items are listed using the Classified format and must also include Best Offer. Sellers set an advertised price for their item and open it up for offers. Buyers submit their offers for the item, and can submit up to a maximum of three offers. The Seller can then review all offers received, and accept or decline them.
Fees for Classified Ads and Classified with Best Offer vary. Visit the fees page for full information.
I reckon its fake. There is way too much detail in the add suggesting that he knows a fair bit about the GUIV TD42Ti and i doubt very much that he knows them and doesn't know that that is a $40k+ car in a heart beat. It has 79,000kms on it!!
Fake for sure!
Can anyone tell me what the Bright Blue box is in the second last pic of the engine bay near where the second battery would go?
I'll bet the seller will be blown away by the number of people who have added this to their 'watch' list.
I got suckered in like this with a pristine 100 series 'cruiser (yeah the bad ol' days - turned to the light side since then) '08, low kms, all the extras......$35k.
The vehicle was legit (VIN, rego etc). But the location given didn't match the area code of the phone number given. I couldn't get in phone contact with them so emailed. About a week later they got back via email, all apologetic because their mother had died in the UK and they had to go back. But miraculously the car was in Darwin, all I had to do was pay them and all would be fine (their pitch was the transaction was all covered by carsales.com.au rules blah blah blah). Anyway I said I wanted to see it before I bought it, and what address could I see it at (they knew I was in Perth). They came back, nothing to worry about just transfer the money. So I asked again, what address could I see the car at. I think they got the hint after that and that was it.
It was too good to be true but what a bargain it would have been!
So you know what they say about if it's too good to be true. And in this case it certainly was. I reported it. Here's a carsales link that gives you the tips, and I dare say if it can happen at carsales it'd be the same on ebay
http://helpcentre.carsales.com.au/sc...payment-scams/
If it's legit though - I'll be the first to buy you a beer. The you can take me for a ride!
And if it's not, you've just saved yourself $17k and some really long looks in the mirror (and bruises from the minister of finance).
Don't think you'll have to buy any beers. There were similar ads on one of expat sites here when I was looking for my first car. All had same theme - pics of perfect car, sob story excuse why they had to give it away, no local number and "trust me" - just send deposit via western union as I'm stuck out of country for a few weeks ... SCAM is my vote

Ok, just done a deal on this Patrol...Picking it up tomorrow...Suprised the ad is still up ;)
I call the Bloke yesterday and just went to msg bank I didn't leave a msg and today I got a text from him saying:
If you are still interested in the 2004 NISSAN PATROL GU III ST 4.2 Turbo Diesel 4wd $17500 please email: camp88@msn.com or text me back your Email.
'Camp 88' must be the prison work camp in Nigeria he is currently paroled from....
I emailed him last nightand called the number about six times today, still no response!
Yeah I had to pay him through this wire transfer thingy he asked me to pay through, but he did say it was very safe. He said I can pick it up tomorrow but for some reason I can contact him right now. I hope he is OK.
I am very happy with the purchase and cant wait to see the car;)
Email sent to that address =]
It's a scam, he has zero sales on eBay and the email not phone call is a huge red flag, bet he is a soldier who has been suddenly posted to Afghanistan and needs the money prior to getting the shipping company to deliver it to your home!
If you're lucky Nisshead he might throw in one of those beaut light bars that he got from his cousin but doesn't need any more :)
Hi All,
Attached is the email reply i got from old mate.. you know the old saying about when something seems too good to be true ;) well it seems this is one of the classic scams being done at the moment, where they say they are overseas etc and getting someone to sell for them.. apparently they ask for a deposit by bank transfer before you are allowed to see the car, then once they have money you will never hear from them again. In my line of work I have access to lots of scamming info, so I have passed this on to the relevant authority. Surely no-one in the Patrol forum world would have fallen for an asking price of only $17,500 for a 2004 TD42T when they are going for the ridiculous price of usually $40,000 and upwards! Cheers, Scotty
Here is the reply:
Thank you for the interest showed in my car, and sorry for the late reply but I have just moved to England with my job. Don't worry though, the car is still there, in Stuart Park NT. It was left to me in my father's will 2 months ago, and to be honest I have no use for a car and I never owned a car before and I don't even have a license, but I can assure you it runs as great as it looks, my father took great care of it. The price I am asking is $17.500 and it includes shipping anywhere in Australia. Because of this situation, me being in UK, I have made special arrangements that allow me to sell the car there without me being present and will allow you to inspect it, so if you are still interested in it please email me back so I can explain to you how can this be done safely for both of us. Thanks, Robert
ha ha tell him you have a policeman mate who lives in stuart park and is happy to inspect it for you, give me the address so i can get it organised asap.
G'day mate,
Apparently, he is going to get mine detailed and the interior shampoooooooed! For no extra cost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
PS, i thing it might be like the swamp land for sale routine, i can only see the land at low tide! lol
Regards,
RLI
WHAT!!! I've been ripped off.....nioooob
This has turned into a very creative and amusing thread, so thanks guys. It was getting way too serious wasn't it!
At least the story's consistent, which means we should really be offering some creative thinking course for the poor little bugger. Maybe a free copy of Tolkien or SoG (that's the MoF's contribution).
But my question is, why do they all say the vehicle's in the Darwin? Surely Karumba or Bing Bong would be much more authentic and believable, or Roswell for that matter.
