Change GQ (possibly MQ/MK as well) double nut and lock washer to GU single locknut and washer.

Top the GQ double nut and lockwasher, bottom the single GU locknut and washer.
Tools I used, not show is 8mm hex bit and ratchet.

Remove the freewheeling hub.

Nothing difficult here just undo the six bolts with an 8mm hex bit and ratchet. There is also no need to remove the wheel.
Remove the hub locating ring (don't know if this is what it's really called but it stayed in the hub when I removed the freewheeling hub.

Remove the circlip

Use external circlip pliers.
Remove the inner part of the freewheeling hub.

Straighten out the lockwasher tab for the outer locknut.

You can see the tab on the left of the nut. I used a pin punch and hammer to flatten it out.
Remove the outer nut.

I had bought the 54mm hub socket so used that but it was not really necessary as the nut was only hand tight and a couple of taps with the pin punch and hammer would have loosened it.
Remove the lock washer.

I found this the most frustrating as it kept getting jammed on the thread and there's really not a lot of room to get hold of it. Using a magnetic pickup and long nose pliers for one side it came relatively easily but the other I had to get a small screwdriver to lever it out.
Remove the inner nut.
Once again I used the socket but really not necessary.
Time to put it all back together.
Put the GU locknut on.

This is a hand tight initally but then I used a pin punch and hammer to get it completely tight. You could make or buy an appropriate tool.

You need to have it so that holes in the washer line up with the two threaded holes in the locknut. So you may have to take it back off and tighten the locknut some more.
Put the two screws in.

I put low strength thread locker on these as probably not a good idea for them to come loose. The standard nissan ones are 4mm x 6mm phillips cheese head set screws really easy to strip the head. I'm going to find some hex socket head set screws to replace them.
There also appears to be a groove here to take a circlip on the axle but neither side had one.
Put the freewheeling hub locator in.

Replace the circlip
I found this really frustrating on the first one as well. The axle would keep moving inwards when I tried to put the circlip over it. So pin punch in the center hole and pushed to one side to hold it and slip the circlip on, no problem.

Great pics too good in fact, whats your next thread recoeing rims, I'd be giving them a light sand and a can of spray IMO
Did you re use old hub gasket, new one any RTV required???
I cleaned and regreased the freewheeling hub whilst doing this.
Used aviation form a gasket when reinstalling the freewheeling hub outer.
You could replace/repack the bearings whilst doing this. However you need to remove the wheel, brake caliper and hub to repack the bearings properly.
YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Don't blame me if your wheel falls off, your bearing seizes, etc.
I have not included torques etc as you should have a workshop manual to look up the correct torques etc.
This thread is intended to show how simple it is to do this modification.

Needed to adjust the wheel bearings before we head of to Flinders Ranges end of next month, so thought I'd do this at the same time.
No gasket at all. Used a light coat of Aviation Form-A-Gasket buy itself. The hubs did not have gaskets in them when pulled and do not look like they've ever had gaskets. No water or dirt issues (did Kimberley to Nth Qld, via GRR, Nathan River Road, etc mid last year).
Thanks 4x4 falcon just picked up two x 8mm hex with 1/2" drive sockets for $16 just for this very job.[Ebay} one I'll leave in 4x4 just in case other in tool kit at home
