How'd you go with the stain removal? Hopefully it's all history, but I work in the road game and when you say black stains I immediately think bitumen (without pics I'm really just guessing). The lads don't usually work over the holiday break but you'd be surprised where the black sticky stuff turns up.
If you ever get black bitumen spatter on the paintwork all you need to get it off is kero. Depending on how bad it is you may also need some elbow grease but it'll do the trick. After it's all off make sure you wash the kero off properly with a good wash product. It mightn't be the most environmentally friendly answer but it's worked for the industry for years.
