Cleaning GU Paint

Gday Folks,

How you all had a Merry Xmas and happy new Year.

I just got back from a 2 week road trip from around Wallemia state forest all the way down to around Buchan and then back to Melbs. Great trip, great driving, great fun.

Unfortunately when i've got the GU in for a clean there is this terrible black stain across the paint (white paint) which is all over the bonnet and partly on the roof.

It look like it went on wet and has now dried and no amount of elbow grease seems to get it off! Nor did any of the products at the car wash.

Does anyone have any recommendations as what to use to clean it off that wont take the paint with it?

I've got no idea what it is but i assume its off some tree that i must have been parked under somewhere along the way.

I use meguires scratch removal 4 little marks ect after going bush, if urs is worse than a few small marks u may have 2 cut n polish

Try using all natural eucalyptus oil and see if that moves it .

a cut & polish will be the go

Ct18 might do it mix or put straight on leave sok for a while till dry then
with a soft broom wash off

Yep cut and polish. I spent all day Sumday giving the GUIV a cut and polish and got rid of 18months worth of wicked pin stripe scratches! I can't believe how well it came up.

Maguires medium cut 6 with a wool buff if its hard

Maguires Swirl Remover 2 if you think a light rub will get it. Hard foam buff pad

Then follow with wet look polish off soft foam pad buff.

All this cleaning, polishing and buffing mallarchy sounds like a lot of work........ Park it over the garden retic, job done lol

Don't stroke it, TAP it!!!!.....

How'd you go with the stain removal? Hopefully it's all history, but I work in the road game and when you say black stains I immediately think bitumen (without pics I'm really just guessing). The lads don't usually work over the holiday break but you'd be surprised where the black sticky stuff turns up.

If you ever get black bitumen spatter on the paintwork all you need to get it off is kero. Depending on how bad it is you may also need some elbow grease but it'll do the trick. After it's all off make sure you wash the kero off properly with a good wash product. It mightn't be the most environmentally friendly answer but it's worked for the industry for years.

Great question and I'd love to know what the painting trade would have to say on that, but from my experience...

My old man's be washing his cars in kero since I can remember. It always cleaned the paintwork really well and leaves a nice water beading finish. It's never damaged the paint, but if there's any chips or bare metal it seemed to accelerate any rust! This next generation doesn't do that anymore!, but spot treatment is fine. That's why it's best to make sure you give it a good wash.

Thanks mate - got a black mark on the rear near the spare and can't get it off for love or money. Had a paint protection bollocks put on but might try kero now!

hopefully you have already removed it but my dear old dad all his life swore by Mr Sheen removing stains and grime from his car and brings the paint up
like a million dollars every time he washed his car he would dry it and apply Mr Sheen and hand polish
Any tuff spots just spray a bit on till it foams up leave it for a minute and hand buff off
it wont remove everything but you will be suprised what it will do and your car will look great
