I just purchased a GME TX6100 handheld. Yet to be used.
Never argue with an idiot, cos he'll bring you down to his level, then beat you with experience. Y2K
Yep, another GME guy here. Owned them most my life and never ever had an issue with any of them.
GME, handheld & hardwired. Nearly indestructible & very reliable.
Gme all the way.

I've been running a GME for a few years, seems solid and transmit/receive quality appears to be excellent. Just returned from 2 weeks in the bush and used it extensively to communicate with the other vehicle while exploring various tracks, never missed a beat. We were often a few k's apart and behind hills/ranges and signal was always good.
I do have a Ham license (easy to get these days) and also have a Yaesu FT7900r in my patrol. The transmit/receive quality is definitely superior to the consumer UHF radios. Having 50W available on the 7900 also helps get the signal out further :) I have a very nice 5W VHF/UHF Ham handheld to communicate with the 7900 when away from the vehicle. My entire family have Ham licenses. My youngest got his when he was 7yrs old (now 13).
In the US (where I live/work when not in Perth) a LOT of the landcruiser 4wd community have gone for their Ham licenses and run them in the 4wds. Price is not much different than consumer gear, but the performance/quality is MUCH superior. Of course in the US, the VHF/UHF repeater structure is incredible and they have mountain tops to install them, so the Ham infrastructure over here is amazing.

cheers,

I have a tx4400 gme as main radio, a uniden as secondary and gme handheld
I have the new Uniden Blue toth one and itss sooo nice to use, very well made, compact, relativally cheep and you can use it out of the car though a blue tooth device, brilliant.
i manly use a tx3600 so i can program any and all frequency i want as listen only or not and set it as a wideband or narrow band have a good list of police fire and so on channels they still have not upgraded most of qld's radio system so still can listen in on most stuff flash for cash check in's police generel inquiries and stuff like that
I've got the Icom 440N which has all the controls in the hand piece. I'm still learning how to use it after having Unidens for years. I needed to update as my old one was to bulky for the patrol. I had one of them big bricks in my cruiser to fill a big hole. lol
So I went the 440N as it has the 80 channels already in it but I'm still getting used to the hand piece.
Cheers Mick.
Same as Mick above Icom 440 Everything on the hand piece, great radio
I have a gme 3540 uhf, very slim unit to hide away and all controls on the handset. First one I have owned and can't complain!
II know this is off topic a bit but does anyone have any of the gme programming software every link i have tryed have been a dead end any help would great
ive got a few gme and love em 2x tx670handhelds a tx6200 handheld a tx3500 as main and a old 40ch tx3200 im considering putting in the camper ..
if its programing channels cant help but if its converting a 40ch (thats 80ch compatible) theres info on the gme web site
if u were buying a new one GME is the only way to go, no other brand uses a digital receiver, as we know everything is going digital only matter of time b4 UHF'S do to, all new GME UHF'S are 80 channels too :)
