2008 wagon 6.0L V8 conversion
-
With the motor out, I turned to stripping out the harness computer and accelerator pedal.
As I hadn't sourced a replacement motor, time was taken to tidy up loose ends and rebadge.

At a second glance I wasn't impressed with the rear door badging and decided to replace it.

-
Once a motor had been sourced the harnesses from both engines where sent to the east coast to be mated, meanwhile the sump was replaced and the alternator moved to its new location

During this time the main tank was dropped and modified to allow a GQ petrol fuel pump and GU 4.8 fuel sender.
-
With parts now flowing in the exceedy clutch and marks adapters bell housing kit where fitted and the engine lowered into position, due to an ls1 and cruiser engine mount no modifications were required to the chassis.

While waiting for the custom ally radiator and harness to return the accelerator from a commodore was bolted into place and custom extractors fabricated to plumb into the existing 3" system were completed.
Finally the harness and radiator arrived.

-
The radiator was then placed in an I went and sourced 10x factory 17" Nissan alloys to run ATs and 35" muddies. At this point I sold the 33/12.5r15 TTC claws to a good home.

Love the pics champ & I can't wait to here how you get on finishing it.
Nicely done.
-
Mate that is awesome, keep those pics coming and any info when you get the chance....I need to win the lotto, I reckon.
-
Good conversion, I would have left badges off, if only just to scare the bejeezas out of someone.
You'll have to let us know your fuel figures after you settle down your driving style.
always said Horses for courses.
-
Yeah I had thought of that but wanted to get rid of the factory stickers and badges and it looked naked without them.
Yeah I'll be very interested to see the figures once driven sensibly
-
What a work of art. Mate I love it. This could be a Mod for me when the 4.5L is dead.Keep the info coming.
Cheers
-
KM2s were ordered today and the rims dropped off at Tyrepower, should be ready for pick up on mon
-
awesome pics, interested to see how it performs after settling in period.
Fuel consumption will be another area for scrutiny.
My old 4500 is getting tired, might be just the conversion Im looking for.
-
Yeah I reckon the first month at least will be hard to get any accurate figures.
-
You must have good self control if I had something like this in anything I owned I doubt a full tank would get me much more than 300km all the time. Awesome build mate will be cool to see the out come and the silly big grin you will have when your driving it.
-
Don't know how I'm Gunna go with the self control bit, reckon it will take time for the novelty to wear off :) I will need to behave at some point though to get accurate figures for touring
-
Just found out for those interested, the harness was done by sideshow performance in QLD.
-
-
-
If you havent had them before you will love those tyres for what they are. They are a little on the expensive side but do most things well including wet bitumen.
-
When your finally rolling mate keep an eye on your system. Danny (Dung Beetle) from Your 4x4 did an LS2 into his 80 and a PWR radiator and twin thermo setup and had ongoing issues with stray current and electrolysis. I think 0.8v or something was all it was but was enough to start eating things and was unmanageable.
It cost his 6 months of chasing ghosts and gallons and gallons of vinegar trying to flush the block hoping his problem was in the LS2!
He ended up ripping out the awesome looking PWR cooler and going with a standard Copper 80 series cooler and his stray current disappeared.
He went the 6 speed auto out of the HSV donor car too.
I was in his car last night and he did a couple of kick downs from slow and FFFAAARRRRRKKKKKKKKK MEEE! Very very similar to both my TD42ss ;) Not! I wear a Neck brace now! ;)

I'm very interested to see how these tyres perform, my last two sets have been Mickey Ts (MTZ and Claws) but after good reports I decided to go back to BFG
-
Cheers mudrunner for the heads up.
I have seen some of Danny's conversion on the show, good to hear some feedback.
I was actually speaking to Simon the other day about running 35's on the factory rims. I also offered him the car while he is here in Perth in November, if he wanted it for the show. Just awaiting his reply.
I'm really hanging out to get this thing back on the road.
-
Simon is just back from a Simpson crossing with the show sponsors in the last week and was away for 2 weeks. he has come back with a week to get ready for the Melbourne 4x4 show this weekend so a fair bit on his plate, give him a bell via email next week and follow him up on your offer Russ and he might even take you up on that. At worst you might get a "Your Rig" out of it and a nice prize pack to boot.
Make sure you got forum stickers on your car when the time comes Russ.
If you have any other questions about Danny's car pm him here, or too the show and he would be happy to chat i am sure. I'd be able to hook you up with him mate as i see him nearly daily. That is Danny's Head i am shoving under the wheel arch in my avatar ;)
-
Cheers mate much appreciated. I assumed he would be flat out.
Im mates with Jeff from Ultimate 4wd here in Perth (show sponsor) and figured Simon might be chasing something while he was over here. Not really wanting anything out of it, plenty of others more deserving of receiving prizes and the like. Who is the best to speak to about forum stickers.
-
have a look here mate, a couple of members do them

The weekend saw the patrol a few steps closer to completion.
On Saturday I removed the lift and took off the light bar and rear work lights ready for the pits, I also fitted the front bash plate. http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum.../2012/09/8.jpg
I also took some more pics of the exhaust, seeing as I didnt get any during fabrication.
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum.../2012/09/9.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2012/09/10.jpg
Sunday saw the fitting of the wiring harnesses and wiring up 99% of the car. The fuel tank was dropped and the new sender and pump fitted and the extra wiring ran. The computer was fitted after a custom mount was fabbed and the wiring for the trailer brakes was ran.
During the day the Heater hoses, and intake mountings were test fitted.

Last night was a magical night, the car was fired up for the first time, just waiting to get the security removed from the ECU so we can kick it over using the key lol

Must of been great to hear her roar.
-
This is making me jealous nice rig once it's all done good work
-
-
Man that looks tidy, great job mate looks awesome.
-
Well I've had the rig on the road for a week now, currently I am getting about 18L/100km however it is currently setup and tuned to get over the pits, once passed we have more freedom to play around and we should be seeing figures around 14-15L/100km.
Here is a pic with all the armour on the front end
