I've got a fold down table on the big barn door on my gu , it is hinged on the bottom and folds down level with cord on the sides , it was very handy during a few recent trips
I can get some pics of mine tomorrow when at home if needed

waz is that made of metal or ply??
cheers Waz, just one silly question do you drill the screws straight into the door for the hinges?
I have a very similar idea in mind for mine but instead of the rope I'll be putting in a small strutt either side. It'll lock into place better and add further support to the table!
I'll post some pics up when I get around to making it haha
Done yours yet Timmo?
I bet that's useful when your rummaging through the boot looking for tools or stuff

There's a collection of pictures on rear door tables. Click once to make them bigger, click again to take you to the original webpage/forum.
ATM there is also one on ebay ready made. Some other mob on the net also make a generic one.
My personal experience is that something like wood is easiest to work with. It is also thick enough that you can fix things to the edge, for say, support.
I chose stainless steel which was too difficult to work with at home. The local tip shop sold it to me for under $10. To start with I got all the pictures I could muster of rear door tables, and found ideas I wanted to use. One of them was for it to be as large as possible. The part where I feel I fell down was not being able to turn down the edges at the front and the sides. Because I couldn't do this, all my good ideas for suspending the table and fixing it when it was up, were no good. Had some nifty stainless clips too.
Pics soon.
Hi. I was at the Melbourne 4x4 show last week and was looking at a door table made by Fourby Fitouts. It look very good, nice solid construction. The factory door trim is replaced with a marine carpet covered board, not sure what is made of. It also came with new matching trim for the small door. The price was about $280, bit much may be??.
Surely someone took some pics?
Tipsy-tap
Awesome idea. I might just have to build one of these as well.
They have some pics on their web site.
Timmo,
One of the best things to use for screwing a table to the rear door, are nutserts.
You can buy a kit with the nutserts and a tool. Basically drill a hole, insert nutsert with the tool, and squeeze the handles. This causes the metal nutsert to collapse against itself and the inner skin of the door, creating a permanent nut for you to screw a bolt into.

I used something similar but for timber: demon nuts. Very useful if you need to be able to screw a bolt in and out multiple times or for better strength than timber alone.
I really like the idea of the fold-down table but decided against it. The fridge slide would collide with it.
Instead I went for a push-to-open table at the bottom of my storage system. I can have it and the fridge slide out at the same time. Very handy to get things in and out.
Hey buddy, ive just made my rear door table. Check out my post http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...t.php?p=268119
Had mine done a while now .Made from mdf and painted to colour match interior .
While in Bunning's in the furniture area - I found a shoe shelf that had 2 metal came with 2 metal plates that have a lip at each end (for $5). A single shelf made a perfect table. I just riveted 2 hingesto the shelf and rear door, used fishing wire to hold the table up.
Pics or ban
stampy put one of these in a bit expensive I think

Liftlid had a great design he knocked up for the back door. Saw it at the last meet up. I can't remember now off the top if my head exactly how he did it but it didn't need wire to hold it up.
Maybe send him a pm
