Almost all Turbo Timers are illegal in most, maybe all states (just so you know). Having said that I tend to use mine a fair bit.
Installing it yourself isn't a bad idea so you can bypass it if it goes U/S. We had one of our clubbies get his electrics flooded and he had to limp to civilisation to get a sparkie to bypass it. The vehicle would only run as long as the timer was set then stall.
sorry I haven't done one myself so can't help with the wiring
I can't say I have ever seen a cop fine some one for using a timer lol
I want to fit it as I drive long distances and would like the piece of mind that I'm doing my best to keep the turbo healthy
fit up a pyro gauge, EGT, Then just ease off the throttle the last part of your trip and shut the car off once they temps are under 200.
This is the best way of doing it and you know its off
I've got one fitted up in my truck but aside from testing it, have never found the need to use it. That said, the Garrett GT35 is water-cooled and most reckon it doesn't need a Turbo Timer anyway. EGT's on the big Chev don't seem to get very high unless really giving it a boot-full, and then the drop pretty quickly as soon as you let your foot off anyway.
