I would imagine there is heaps written about this in the archives have a search,
but 150mm past the turbo sounds familiar
Post turbo in the dump pipe. Does your straight through have a bung?
This may help you.

i usually aim for between 120 and 150mm
Agree with the others, make sure its no further than 150mm (6 inches) from the exhaust side of the Turbine housing (the face where the exhaust bolts to the Turbo)
thanks fellas I ended up installing the probe 50mm from the dump pipe flange got the egt up and running the hottest it has got so far is 550 degrees up hill with a fully loaded camper on
Hey Benno, I was looking at the same kit and was looking at the probe. Is the probe too long? any dramas fitting it on the 3" pipe?
Best place is pre-turbo.
Post turbo is not an accurate measurement of the combustion temperatures and we are left with making an estimate of the delta T across the turbo and guessing the true combustion temps.
But, there is always a but, post turbo is popular because you can drill the pipe with everything assembled and not worry about metal getting in the turbo.
If you are in the situation of having the manifold off or whatever so you can clean out the swarf then it is a no-brainer... pre Turbo is heaps more reliable and lots more accurate.
That is a cracking good price for the kit and you should only insert the thermocouple so the tip is in the centre of the flow IE 3 inch pipe, tip goes in 1 1/2 inches from the wall.
To shallow or to deep and you start to get errors from the wall of teh pipe
