Which hose is which for fuel flush? td42

G'day,
I am going to do a Liquid-Moly diesel purge shortly, on the N/A TD42. BUT- I dont know which hoses I need to release.

Can anyone tell me which is the return line, and which is the feed line. At the pump, I guess.

I need to put the return hose and the inlet hose into a plastic bottle at the same time. Sort of a circular feed, till the cleaning agent is used up. (The cleaning agent acts as fuel, while doing its business).
Hope you get what I mean. My Gregorys manual doesnt tell me which is which:)

Hey mate i fixed the typos and added some extra info into the title for you bud.

Hmmmmm? I'd not be going anywhere near the pump i dont think? Surely the two hoses going in and out of your remote Fuel Filter will act as the feed and return? I may be wrong but I'd be taking both sides of that off and put a short fuel line onto the inlet side of that and the put them both into you Flush. That would then isolate the Fuel Tank too as your return line goes to the Fuel tank and you dont want that crap going in there.

Running at your filter will then create a controlled circuit for the flush and you could just cycle it through which i think is the idea?

You usually run the return back into the flush bottle for a purge so feed is the inlet side of the filter and run the return the other one from the pump into the bottle as the return will constantly have fuel coming out of it back to the bottle until it is all gone.
And using it pre filter will let you bleed it.

Actually 97 i think we are both slightly off mate, The OUTLET side of the filter will be the inlet for the motor for fuel as you dont want to run the purge through the filter!

97 do you know where he can find the return line off the pump? It will go from the pump to a brass line on the chassis then back to the tank filler.

If you don't use the filter you can't bleed it and the engine won't run.
Their is only two lines on the pump feed and return feed comes from the filter.

But if you run the Liquid-moly purge through the filter then your already breaking down the product by design before you get to the engine?

If you just drop off the outlet line and drop it straight into the pot then your should not need to purge as the fuel pump will draw out of the pot instead of the tank and you have let very little air into the line?

Maybe??? Can you hear the confidence in my voice? i have never done one of these so using only MudRunner Logic here ;)

What are your thoughts 97?

The purge should go through the filter the same as fuel the filter really should have no problem passing it

AFAIK I need to NOT go thru the filter. Its supposed to go from the inlet of the pump, and the overflow/return line. This way it uses the fuel(inlet) and what it doesnt use goes back into the bottle.To be used. A closed system you could say. My problem is that, on top of the pump is 2 fuel lines to one fitting, and under the pump is one hose. is the bottom hose the overflow/ return? And is one of the 2 top ones a feed from the tank/filter. If so- which one. I cant follow the lines, as they dissapear.Thanks for all your tips! Greatly appreciated.

Their should be two fuel lines on your pump.
The one from the filter is the inlet .
The other is the return
If you do not use the the filter you will have no way of bleeding it and it won't run at all as the filter has the primer pump in it to bleed it.

OK! I took off the big hose at the top banjo fitting(theres 2 of em) and the smaller one from the bottom.replaced both old hoses with new ones at the same time.You need a slightly longer peice of 8mm hose for both outlets but. About 30 cm each I guess. Stuck both the hoses into the bottle,and fired 'er up. Ran it at idle thru to 45 million RPM and it lasted about 10-15 minutes, (the 2 bottles-not the engine:) ) After that the engine sorta died (ran outta flush) so I switched it off. Replaced new hoses .Went over to the plunger and pumped it maybe 5 times till it went hard (the plunger that is ). Turned it over for maybe 2 lots of 5 seconds, and it started. I'm sold. Best $30 I ever spent (except for a cheap carton I got just before Easter). It has made a BIG improvement on the idle vibration. Its definetly got more power. MUCH smoother!! Its great stuff. Never have I seen an additive make so much difference. No- I am not the owner dierector of Liqui-moly worldwide. Although you could be excused for thinking I am. What with my 1992 GQ with 400 Brazillion kilometres on it:)
