Years gone by I drove heavy vehicles that had the optimum torque band highlighted in green on the tacho. In the case of the TD42T I'd think it would span from 1500rpm to 2300rpm or thereabouts. Why anybody would flog these to 4k is beyond my courage!Quote:

My first and only honest concern found was the choice of using the rubber nipple drain thingy much like on my tractor Donaldson that I wouldn’t dare take fully underwater through the creek.

Decided to stop by @Rossco ‘s (The Skinny Mountain GQ Bushman’s :-) shed to gauge his well Legendary experienced deep underwater off-road thoughts for my concerns.
Agreed together that it wasn’t extreme optimal and maybe a manual on/off mechanical simple valve like our other ‘Millweld’ beloved airboxes should be adapted for peace of mind.
Couldn’t help myself later and decided to get a secondary Legendary opinion/advice from the (Vic-Otways Swamp Nutter) @MudRunnerTD.
All three of us are now confirmed on the same page concerned for the OEM design and Daz has kindly put forward a simple solution he’s faithfully used before as I have been known to forget shutting off the manual valve on my other airbox drain.

They do work those little valves. If you have a think about it. When the engine is running there is vacuum being pulled inside the airbox. So with vacuum it pulls the rubber valve inwards and seals not allowing any fluid in. This is why it didn't work in your bath tub.
