Just make sure you wear your cap backwards John and have the seat reclined back...
got the nodding dog head already lol
More like the three Tenors flat stick
Pulled the radiator out and am waiting to take it to a mate's place. He repairs radiators for a living. He reckons the Patrol bodies flex better than the Yotas, so fair better on corrugations and stuff. As a trade off, the solder can split. I actually liked the top radiator mounts on my 4wd Corolla, (Gasp...blasphemy). They let the radiator move more freely, so I am thinking about making a similar system for the Old Trol.
what style are you repairing all alloy or have you a copper and brass number.
what does your mate recommend?
B/C, TD. I've trusted B/C for 30 odd years and they can be fixed easier. I reckon the jury is still out on whether alloy is worth swapping to.
Seems to be the go for longevity, as all alloy to me is so over priced IMO
Rubber mounting it somehow has to help too.
Think Winnie got one that didn't break the bank,
how was the fan??
The fan is just starting to show its age. I will keep an eye on it an put it on the to do list.
Dropped it off at the mechanics, looks like a new wheel bearing along with new hoses, all of them and heaps more :(
and now the swivel hubs as well and broken bolts on the gearbox crossmember, i think someone is trying to make it hard for me to go on this trip to the simpson :(
What's wrong with the swivel hub? The cross member bolts are a pain, I have one that's stripped the captive nut in the chassis rail.
swivel hubs are like a boghole is how he described them, brown goo :(
Got the radiator back, and was told the minor leak was not the cause of the coolant loss. I followed my mate's advice and took off the fan belt and ran the motor to check for bubbles at the head ( attached a half plastic bottle to one of the sensor holes). When I revved the engine water blurted out so I have taken the head off. Found two of the stainless steel rings on the gasket have split. My mate has taken the head to pressure test and machine. He had a quick check of the known spots that the heads crack and found nothing. Also found that the exhaust manifold was warped, explains why I get fumes under heavy acceleration, so he is gunna machine that too.
Gday fellas, need some help. My front tyres on my 06 GU Ute were wearing oddly so I got her up on the stands and gave the wheel a wobble, I have movement up and down but NOT side to side, the hub and brake rotor move with the wheel, is it safe to say the bearings are gone? Both outer shoulders (fronts) were more worn than the others but unevenly between the two, is this just a camber issue? Any help would be awesome.
G,day, aarron, and welcome to the forum. Do the bearings make a rumbling sound when you spin the wheels. If not, the bearings may just need a re-grease and to be adjusted properly. Try the search function as I am sure there are threads on how to to bearings.
Any ideas on the un even shoulder wear?
Thanks in advance.
Check all of the bushes on the front axle and suspension. Also check the swivel hub bearings (king pins). Do the wheel bearings and get a wheel alignment.
Jack the car up and check for bearing play, if no bearing play check your tyre pressure! Tyre pressure on road is so important just ask a truck driver!. Wheel alignment wont have much to do with shoulders wearing on tyres as there is no camber adjustment on diff. Hubs are secured by the king bing bearings top and bottom.
If you have movement up and down your king bearings are worn,
Everyone that owns a patrol should strip one side of a front diff, once you do you'll understand so much more.
9" Ironman Supernova HID lights!
Chopped the mesh out of the bottom half of the cargo barrier so I could use the wasted space between the cargo barrier and the back of the drawers.
Also fitted some LED lights to the small barn door.
Installed new UHF aerial, after some p@!:k decided it was more useful to them than it was to me last weekend!
Even had to unscrew a grub screw to take it!
Ran cabling for the reversing camera and extra reversing lights...
Not me but got the patrol back after getting it serviced and checked over prior to the Simpson trip also finally got the winch fitted albeit just a crappy Chinese on until I can afford a decent one.
Just upgraded the interior LED lights to these large babies, will see what theyre like tonight . I also realized they fit perfectly in the reading lights up front, so I ordered another set.

Just finished mounting the sidesteps/running boards donated to me by GU CAMPER who has replaced them on his truck with some proper rocksliders. Wish I'd done the driver side first, that way I would have known how they were supposed to sit, but I didn't, I did the passenger side first. This was the side where GU CAMPER had used them as rocksliders. Much cursing & a bit of gentle persuasion with an angle grinder, a set of files, a couple of hacksaw blades & a 3lb lump hammer finally saw it mounted. Drivers side went on no trouble. It was only then I realised that the passenger side was bent up a couple of inches & a bit rearwards too. I reckon he was having fun when he did that! Still they are on, & look alright, & more importantly (& the reason for fitting them) will now protect the sills from the gravel attack they have been susceptible to.
Thanks Andy. :)

Mounted the radio antennae and ran the cable to the inside of the cabin, just need to remember to seal the firewall up now to stop the water getting in.
Drove it then heard it go bang a few times from the driver side front hub/cv.... Hmmmm....
Hubs in 2wd or 4wd: 5 "bangs" in 20 mins.
Hubs out, 2wd no bang but an occasional slight squeak.....
Any ideas?
I drove my to work and then I drive it home, same as yesterday.
Sorry guys I had to do it at least once.:clapping:
Replaced drivers side weatherstrips and did a dodgy self tapper fix of the drivers side door card corner onto the door.
Make sure your hand brake isn't binding on, because it can sound like that too. I hope it is an easy fix for you.
Saw these for the first time at night. Just thought I'd mention they're super bright, inside the car it's like full daytime with them on. Bargain for that money. They fit snug between the light assembly and the cover. Same thing for the reading lights above the review mirror.
Love my led additions, turns night into day.
LED strip lights under the bonnet is something I have been meaning to do for a long time...
As for me. Re-adjusted the from Panhard rod. As it wasn't quite right, then had to re-adjust the drag link. Then I spotted the fan belt auto tensioner had blown the little shocker. Oil everywhere. Lucky I keep a spare tensioner under the seat.
I have also spotted the front of the motor behind the balancer is a little wet from oil.
I only bloody change the front seal last year too. Argh!
Finally got ECUTALK to work............ now to figure out what it all means???? ha ha ha ha!!!
Yeah good luck with that mate.
Got my alarm and central locking working after the pricks who stole my other car got my keys.... win win day !!!!
Now all I need is this snot to bugger off !!!
