Put a deposit on a new cab for the GQ from our friends@ patrolapart. Needed to decide what to do for a while, the old GQs had a few rust issues popping up mainly in the roof and also in the seem in the firewall & sills. Anyway dropped into patrolapart to see what they had and costs, had a mint car there which will buy as a shell, was heaps cheaper than expected and heaps better option than repair.
Anyway think that will be this year's project, can't wait should be fun hoping the GQ should come out pretty nice.[emoji5]

Oh yeah that's a great idea! ! Ha ha
Yep thinking good winter project, going to sneak in a few more trips before it's retired then get stuck into it. Haven't got a timeline but wasn't too very it back on the road as soon as possible hopefully by spring.
Thinking paint, sound deadening, turbo, airbox, 4 inch Snorkel, seats, do it all in one. .

Yeah have a bit in the kitty been doing well at being a serious tight arse this year so far! !
Surprised at how cheap the cab from patrolapart was, was thinging sourcing something on ebay or gumtree would have been the best but good old patrolapart! Don't have to take off 2 cabs either just pick this one up as a shell. The biggest thing is painting, if I could paint would save a few pennies but all good. .

@Rossco a body off resto makes a lot of sense lets say it costs $15k all up just saying
at the end you'll have a brand new Patrol with all your mods on it.
IMHO a better idea than forking out $25k on a GU again just saying.
Hopefully mine will be going and I can give you a hand [pass drinks] lol
Hmm maybe, have had a bit of a go before painting workout great success but would like to do as much as possible at least to reduce costs. Have a panel beater mateish who I've spoken to he's reasonably happy to do it for a reasonableish price. . .

Trans oil temp gauge , buying was the easy bit , fitting is something I'm not looking forward to .
Might have to trawl the forum for some ideas .
I've done mine. Where the cooler pipes run from the trans to the radiator, there is a point where they are joined with a rubber hose. i just got a tee piece from enzed and tapped it to screw the sensor into, then fitted it in the line. Best done from under the car. Can't really put a pic up as i can't take a picture without removing half the engine bay.
Haven't really been underneath the bus for a while but know it's a hard line to the radiator , but I'm putting in a transcooler anyway.
I have heard that drilling and tapping the banjo bolt where the oil comes out is the best spot but will keep that option in mind .
Some more tie downs. Currently $39 at Bunnings. Good value.
Technically bought my self a 3 month forgotten LED bar... Thanks Supa Center!
Trial fit to roughly where I'd like to mount it. Bolts will go from the side central pillars off the bar.

Those zip ties will hold for good trust me !
Got some new boots fitted to the Patrol.
Stuck with the BFG AT's.
Took the kids to see the dinosaur show in Perth and on the way back decided to take a detour and head down Telephone Lane in Baldivis for a quick wheel.
While it was pretty easy going man that place is real chopped up now. Been years since I been down it. It was dry all the way through apart from 1 fairly decent looking long mud hole which 2 guys in tritons was having trouble with. Didnt bother with it myself as I didnt haveany recovery gear on me.
On a side note I definitely need to put in a lift and bigger boots as soon as I can. Dragging my arse and diffs everywhere

So fed up with the Warn winch I have now, every time I want to use it, it fails! That's 2 Warns kark it in 12 years, for what they charge I was hoping for a better service life.
Snigging firewood logs Tuesday and it died again aarrrgggh.
The brushes get stuck in the slides they are located in and as the motor is not solidly attached to the winch it moves around and pushes the little buggers away from the commutator. This is the 6th time I've tried to fix this.
So a 12000lb fits, up from 9500lb and hopefully ticks the boxes. About half the price of a Warn too.
You can buy a bracket to suit the way you're mounting your bar.
I brought a pair so I can fit a 42" single row along the side.
I'll try and find the link again, or just type in bullbar brackets
Sunyee and Vic Off Road sell them for about $20 a pair
just need to find the correct size. Protect your bar with a
few wraps of electrical tap when fitting them.

Looked at reviews Winnie and water was noted by one and heaps of others said they had no problems, the question is if the actually serviced them and had a look inside.
That was the trouble with the Warns, water did get in but not all of it drains out of the drain hole. On a warm day it condensates all over the insides causing corrosion.
you could pressurise it using an airhorn motor and a needle valve.
You'd need to drill and tap a hole for the air fitting
You spend mega bucks on a winch and have to fit something to keep the water out and the thing plays up , $199 from Aldi and still going strong after 4-5 years and got me out of trouble heaps of times .
Also used it to straighten the shed and pulled a few stumps out .
