Yeah, he will see me crawl up Big Red no dramas and lure him into a false sense of security, good thinking Benny!
Yeah but she'll be right it's a GQ just roll it back on it's wheels and keep going lol
Back to you Georgie boy. Any of your arguments I see as null and void my friend with the fact your looking at an engine swap. The word practicality comes into mind with toughness. Have a look at any comp seen most are gq's. yes they use gu diffs but the only difference here is cv joint size the rest is still all the same. A GQ is tougher straight of the box hence why myself and mud runner own both. The GQ for the hard and rough and the GU for the comfortable touring.
Back to your engine swap. You will certainly be making the car weaker if you choose the Chev route while bolt parts and aftermarket is great, their longevity and reliability isn't great compared to that of a well maintained Nissan donk. As for your suspension worries show me any decent drag, race or street car that doesn't have some form o modified suspension.
As for the the earlier remarks about rocky track, if you can't get up this in a standard gu ( maybe a 2" lift as most are these days) then you should put a for sale sign on it straight up.
Bring on September I say ;)
Thanks mate, your a top bloke aswell ! Jus keep the cloths on mate haha
I'm one stubborn GREEK ( not hairy enough to be a lebo and i don't spit that much when i talk, do i ?? PML!) that wont back down for nothing, the bollocks are too big for my own good lol.
I can't take leave but if its around a public holiday or the weekend i'll be there and the GU wont let me down so no need for my other car, unless you QLDERS knock stuff off it to "enhance" your Q's haha...
Not picking on Georgie but he seems to be the only one on team GU lol.
Firstly don't the GU diffs have a wider track??
Secondly most drag cars get re built every meet to make sure they are still serviceable and they also get scrutinized before every meet to check for stress fractures and to make sure their mods are legal.
I was tossing up between a td42 or the ls1, more so the ls coz i already have a motor sitting doing nothing but was in 2 minds about it. Just depends what the bank account looks like when i make up my mind, so that story will be continued lol.
Whats rocky track ?? Lol
I think someone else said something about rocky track.
Someone earlier said that they have long arms I'm just wandering how do u find them and do u think that they r worth it or do u suggest to just get some adjustable once.
Also I'm looking at putting 4.11 diffs in my 4.8 auto but the gu didn't come with the 4.11 in the back with the small diff so it looks like I'm going to be looking at u gq boys for diffs
As and a 2 inch lift mine doesn't even have that so I had to crawl up on stock hight suspention stock tyres with 36 psi in them and I was still dragging my diffs and factory side steps.
Also when I bought my 4.8 ti I was also looking at gq's but it's hard to find good once these days that don't cost the same as a gu
Long arms are certainly worth it. Why do you want to change ratios? You don't need GQ diffs as such just any rear but the gu has a wider track.
I'm hearing ya about the prices there is a GQ advertised up here for 35k.

Found it on gumtree over here thought wtf???
Just tap it in just tappy tappy tappy
My gq is tough because its a patrol. You're gu is tough because it too is a patrol. Nuff said.
Every one who has a GU and a GQ ( Matty and Daz ) can't comment!! Lol
The reason I want to change ratios is because the 4.8 autos eaven with standed tyres are to tall at 3.5 and I want to run 33's as my on road tyres and 35-36's off road so the 4.11 would be about perfect. I'm not after the hole diff and housing just the ring and pinion and the gu doesn't have any models with the 4.11's in the small h233 diff but the gq dose if that makes sence
I know the gq's were used for military applications, anyone know if the gu's were used?
The difference is the 0 care factor for the GQ its like wearing your suit to change your engine oil
Come on George.... Apparently you've seen Darrens GQ, so just how tough is it?
If you're happy and you know it tap a post!
The UN peace keepers use GUs.
My GUIV is a Tough Tourer. My GQ is an extreme car and has been set up for that purpose. Short trip stuff. You can't expect to USE it hard core and expect it to then do a 5000km touring trip! Regardless of a GU or GQ it just not fair to the car or the rest of the trip.
If you have a GU setup like my GQ with all the bar work then Play Hard. Mine still has a plastic rear bumper and it took a few hits the other week at Tallarook. Would prefer not to wreck it.
The GU is way more comfortable but is WAY WAY bigger too! And in the bush in the tight stuff it rubs on more stuff.
If you just want the comfort then seriously buy a 200 series! Nice! But not a patrol!
I reckon they both ROCK! They are both Nissan Patrols and both have a TD42T! Life is good
Yeah but yours is set up for a different kind of Hard Ben. Slow Rock Crawling with Treps and reduction gears is difficult, great fun and tough as hell but not really that taxing on the car in real terms. Playing Hard in teh Mud and scrub down this end and in and out of Bog holes and belting the crap out of your car really does take its toll.
In saying that though, one of the guys i did the Madigan Line with was in his GQ and also did the Mud trip with me in his GQ and took its toll. he now says that he has to choose, his car is a Tourer and carries the weight of a Touring car and is not the best setup for flogging into the Otways.
