Good job there mate, well done
Soooo what where you stressing about, new you had it in ya
good job mate well done
Good stuff, didn't know about the paint you could get. Sure makes it easier for a DIY.
Thanks Andy

I heard some bad stories about using the 2 can system as you need to press a button under the gloss can which injects the hardner into the can. I heard stories that the hardner doesn't mix properly, etc. Mine was a perfect mix and worked a treat. I think the person that told me they don't work just didn't shake the can long enough...LMAO
just read through your whole buildup, got some skills man. Gotta love that turbo shistle ey, im still reving my motor like a spastic and look forward to every gear change hahaha. For some reason my rig makes a blow off valve kinda whoosh when i change gears though, is this normal? never heard it on other GQ's before so kinda interested if yours does it too?
cheers ill go post it up, kinda like it but worried something is going wrong with the turbo.
Been a while...
Thought I would throw up a pic of Blueys first battle scars from the forum meet up.
Time for some sliders me thinks...lol
Put some new flares on Bluey today....DIY thread coming up now!
Ouch mayb a bit late for some protection mate
Deary me AB,
NO sill protection, slider are cheap insurance for sill damage... Lucky the door wasn't pushed up.
Get the Welder out... :)
Shit happens, we all learn..... Check out my you tube link in my signature.. abut 1:30 in, remove my old crappy gal side step and put new decent rock slider before the little comp I did.... Saved the same type of damage...
Pretty much exactly what I did mate. Jeesh, I thought my GQ sounded loud with the 3" straight through...lol...Yours sounds like a possessed demon!
It's loud a little to loud I reckon, i get dirty looks in the camp site when we I get up super early for night/morning runs while everyone is still asleep....
Well the clutch is finally on It's way out...lol
Safari tuff clutch coming in tomorrow. I got it from Northern brake and clutch in Kensington, Victoria at a good price and to top it off they already oiled the spigot bush which I think is great service that you won't find most Ebay sellers doing so double thumbs up for good service.
I'll get it fitted next week, can't wait!
Would of been too risky towing the camper up to Loveday with a dodgy clutch and ofcourse the QLD meet up in October.
Top stuff mate! As long as you still at love day then top stuff$!!
nice! my td 4.2 has done 450 000 and still going strong!
trucks coming along real good there, new bar looks the goods too.
Thanks mate, It's getting there!
I broke the plastic bit that holds one of the clips in place of the GU air filter box and now it leaks a bit of water on deep crossings and mud holes.
I have tied a dodgy strap over it for now but it keeps coming loose and I can't afford to get a new airbox just yet so trying to conjoire up an idea to seal the airbox...LMAO
Dodgy is my middle name!!!
Any dodgy ideas are also welcome!!!
Nice rig AB .
Well been working like a trojan trying to get ready for Loveday.
KC Daylighters are hooked up, rear light hooked up and on switch.
Finally put the rear Nissan mud flaps back on and used some metal strips either side of the flaps, welded on a chain link and ran stainless steel fixings and chain back up to the rear bar as they are close(ish) to the tyres so hopefully they shouldn't grab now.
Looks a bit of a mongrel at the moment but I think my car is legal now and shouldn't give me any grief for Easter!!!
Some happy snaps of todays effort!
You've done well Andy, just need to run the wiring INSIDE the light bracket now, dunno why I bother drilling holes in them lol.
I know, I got lazy but I did kill rust the hole and put a grommet there too...LMAO
Mate, trying to get those wires through the rubber tube from barn door to body was a huge nightmare!!!
Ended up sticky taping the wires to a welding rod and spent about 20 minuets trying to get it through...
Yeah, I never told you about that lol
I use a thin wire doubled, push it through and thread the wire and drag it through with some vaso on it.
Anyway, you only need the positive, the bracket will earth itself through the bolts.
Cheers, Rod.
Busy boy I thought I'd did dun good takin to aggie with the sledgy today hahahhaha
Tappin N Crappin
I'm gonna have to get one of those light brackets off you ferret, much neater than I could make myself.
Yeah that's right, would be lots of trial and error, repeat, LOTS of error!
Lol, I've done all the trial and error, They fit!!
Cheers, the ferret.
Sad day for the GQ...lol
Had overheating issues lately, radiator got taken out to find the whole bottom third is pretty much gone....Rusted away and jammed packed with mud...In fact the mud was holding the rusty pieces of fins...lol
:(
tappin it
sorry to hear mate thats def no good hey!
Just fitted some vz commo seats to the gq today. I was one of the unlucky ones and the holes didn't line up.
Soooo comfy now, one word...awesome!!!
Will post up some better pics and a little DIY tomorrow.
Cannot believe its been over 2 years since I updated this thread!!
So much has been done since then. Ill update this page soon.
A lot of love is happening to my gq in coming weeks as it started to get neglected and treated like a pig so stay tuned!
Just finished putting a large wrx front mount ic in, moved the condenser back to allow room and amazingly it fit snug behind the grille by just removing the fins and covered with new mesh, sprayed the grille black too.
Got very lucky (although it was planned) that the entry and exit points from the ic snugly fit just under the headlights where the plastic mould of the grille comes out further, otherwise I would of had 3" pipe coming outside the grille looking very ugly!
My tyres are almost done so I'm upgrading to 35" km2's.
Going to cut front and rear guards to accommodate the new tyres, get some better flares on as well. The Bunnings flares are just crap, I have ruined them and makes the car look rough!
Install new satphone dock that was under warranty.
Get ba's bar on, rebuild high mount and install.
Rear quarter chop may be done whilst cutting guards too, still deciding...
Looking at using large custom shs for rear bar to suit the gq box look, prefer that look then tubes.
Upgrade turbo and pump in the future as well but no idea on what I even want to be honest. As matty mentioned, ill check out some other members set ups for inspiration...lol
Lots happening though!!!
Stay tuned.
So what are you going to do for flares?
Why were the Bunnings ones shit?
Got 2 get my arse in gear and start doing some much needed work to mine......flares been one of the things that needs doing
It's just cheap mate, it's thin, looks average.
It's hard to keep it on a nice contour around the arch. It sags and looks crap eventually.
The plastic is stiff, hitting the flares when you are in deep ruts puts them out of shape permanently.
I'm on a budget with my gq due to life's joys of living but learnt that cheap ways around things is just crap in some applications.
Do it right first time and enjoy...ab's new motto...lol
