Nice work mate, nice seeing the before and after shots. Looks mad!.
Looking good as always
Where did you get the striker plates and weather strips from mate?
One word.......... NICE
;):D
one tough rig mate
Cheers. Changed the oil seal on the rear axle. Looks like at some point it's had it's rear bearings replaced. By a butcher by the looks of it...

But either way, bearings feel good so a quick re-grease and it's all back together again.
For those wondering where I got the parts, check this site out

Genuine parts, brand new, for very cheap.
Installing solid windows. Fun job doing it solo. Not!!

Bought a front diff housing for almost nothing😃. Plan on cleaning it up and laminating it, then will Put new bearings and seals into it and install it onto the patrol.

Wondering if anyone has ever braced the radius arm mounts like this? Overkill?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...322E16BC50.jpg
That reminds me, those who have welding experience, how do I avoid welding a bend into the diff when putting the top brace onto the passenger side tube?
Parksy, I'm not really a GQ guy, but I enjoy your thread and seeing what you're up to. I'd have to admit the way you've got the truck looking I would be proud to have it any day. Love the way you just go about everything so thoroughly and share it all with us. Thanks mate!
Thanks CGM. Appreciated! I enjoy reading other build threads and the ideas it gives me so I hope I give others ideas aswell.
Picked up a clutch and freshly machined flywheel that had been installed for 1 week. Apparently the bloke ran the engine without oil and killed it. Score for me.

Also grabbed a gearbox with half the mileage that mine has.

Picked up the lot for $350. Stoked!
Tell my wife that I have to and ill be right over.
By the way, good luck!! :)
Parksy,
How old is the box and transfer, as the seals and joint look immaculate....
Mic
I was told 230000km. Feels good when shifting through the gears and the input shaft has zero play. Going to be a vast improvement compared to my box, which I thought was ok until I felt this box... Oh that sounds dirty...
My boy doing a great job of cleaning the transfer box. If there's power tools operating then he's gotta be there. Love it!!

The majority of the dirt and oil and crap somehow landed on me. Took about 30 mins of scrubbing in the shower to get it off. But it's looking good now and can sit there for a few months to degas until I can be bothered to chuck it into the car.
Looking shmic mate. You going for show car are you??
Haha no way, I just like things to look nice.
Diff laminating in progress. Has been a good day.

Square diff tubes look good.

Looks the goods, Parksy. Is the lamination fully sealed or is air allowed to circulate to keep the moisture at a minimum?
It is fully sealed, but I'll drill a hole in the top and put some oil in for protection then chuck a rubber bung in.
6mm plates welded on both sides of the radius arm mounts. Don't think ill be elongating these holes in a hurry.

I can't wait to see this in the metal one day mate....

Hahaha. Thanks. You never said anything about wanting it back.
Thanks CGM! Appreciated.
I really enjoy welding. Feels very rewarding when it just works nicely. Unfortunately in my job, very little is welded on aircraft, it's all alloy and rivets.
Have ripped the head liners out and am very happy to see zero rust in the sills. It's perfect. But this didn't stop me from drowning them in penetrol anyway.

I need to remove the double sided tape now but it's very tacky. Anyone have any good tips for removing it?
When is it going offroad? There are some serious tracks close to you.
Yep I know, but I get a lot of enjoyment just from working on it.
Noticed that the metal frames that run on the insides of the roof are glued onto the external skin. Some of the joins had delaminated which would cause a knocking sound when flexing. Nothing that some sikaflex would fix though.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...F10EDB0778.jpg
Filled the roof supports with 3 and a half tubes of sikaflex and started with the sound deadener.

Went around and tapped on the bare metal panels looking for any hollow or noisy areas. B pillar and the front section that holds the mirror and sun visors were offenders and covered.

The noise reduction has been good. I still have foam to put down that will help improve things. The main thing that I'm absolutely amazed with and so is my wife, who normally doesn't really notice anything is the temperature drop in the cabin when parked in the sun. Absolutely amazing!
