Hi Patch,

you can run CHKDSK in Windows Safe or normal mode but this will only do a minimal disk and environment check. It wont repair any problems it encounters but it will report if it does find any problems.

When running diagnostics on any HDD no matter what OS, you should run it with the drive "not mounted" meaning an operating system hasnt been started from it.

You can only run CHKDSK /R in a "DOS" environment before the OS has loaded. Win 32 or 64 bit.

Yep agreed & the method I mentioned gives you the option to schedule a boot time scan same as running chkdsk /R & /F from cmd.

Thanks mate, will have a look..........still locking up after running the chkdsk :( have a feeling its not the o/s freezing but more a touchpad / driver issue.

If thats the case and you have a USB mouse connected, You should be able to set the touchpad to automatically disable itself when a USB mouse is connected to the computer.

Pretty sure its frozen,I always just reboot, will test it out when it happens next.

Sometimes when I reboot it after it locks up it says it can't find the o/s sytem, but then I reboot again and its fine.

The other thing I have noticed is I use fingerprint scan for login, and sometimes that doesn't come up and I have 2 use password instead.

I just put it down 2 microsoft windows and bad programming *LMAO*

Windows key does nothing at all.
