12ga Shotty:thumbup:
A new Dewalt 18v brushless drill. A new addition to my Dewalt 18volt range.
It doesn't matter what month or season of the year I go south for holidays, it always rains. A lot like Victoria, really. Lol.
I'm gunna zip into Bunnings at Albany and buy a 2k watt generator, today. My 95lt fridge and battery love their vitamin D. Lol. Leaning towards the Ryobi. Anybody got one? R U happy with it?
Think I'll go straight for the incendiary rounds
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2017/03/87.jpg
Yes I have the ryobi gennie , it's reasonably quiet , easy to start , apart from the hiccup of it doesn't like to run in +46 degree heat at max output (which I'm sure none of them don't) only other problem that had me stumped when it wouldn't start at 80 mile beach WA .
Oil was down a bit and slight angle the unit was on activated the fail safe switch for low oil level , so not much really to say don't buy one ours has been ok .
While we camped at Dalhousie Springs during the forum Meet in the Middle, there was a bloke there who ran a generator until very late at night.
He was running one incandescent light bulb. Would you believe it? We live in a world of LED lighting and lithium batteries, it is very cheap and easy to get a rechargeable LED camp light that would probably last longer than a tank of fuel in his generator and put out more light.
What was he thinking???
Tuff Truck tickets you little beauty.
Ordered & paid for. Should arrive in the mail in a few days time. One more thing ticked off the ’to buy’ list. Hoping to carry it around with us for a decade or more but never need to use it! Will get a plb too.
Attachment 71199
Yep same as mine , must work out how to use the gps function properly
We took the gennie as back up when going round oz , used it twice first half of the trip and one of those times was loaned to an old guy and his wife who pulled up late and couldn't get his going .
Nothing worse than a generator going right next door unless your by yourself or well away from others , I put 600 watt of solar on van roof and had a 3000 watt inverter so used it bugger all .
Till we did the second half during the off season , temps mid 40's no other tourists and blew my inverter up .
So did use it then , but soon realised price of fuel for one night was same as off peak caravan park .
I have solar power and 3 batteries, but if on extended trips I also take my 1k Honda Generator. It's over 10 years old and hardly makes a sound, especially if I place it under my insulated "2 milk crate" noise filter. You can stand beside it and hold a normal conversation while hardly noticing it running. I only use it in an emergency, if the batteries are very low and theirs no solar ( sun ) available.
Having 600 watt solar for two batteries even when sky was cloudy I could get a float charge or better , only time battery's gave trouble was one batt shite itself , should have started with two new batts but cheaped out and only bought one new one .
Cant see any time when a Gennie would be required at camp, with all the solar
and LED technology out there there is no point,
My first camp light was an indicator globe with a reflector made from a beer can,
after that I used 12v down lights, this was well over 20 yrs ago.
Sound travels at night so no matter how quiet you think it is ,,,it will annoy some one
I also have a little Honda Eu10i. Bought it as an impulse buy when travelling, carried all round Australia & only used it to keep the crank battery charged for a couple of weeks when the alternator died. It is probably the quietest gennie out there, but even so, in the quiet of the bush it is noticeable. When camped near others I always approached neighbours to explain I would need to run it for a while, no-one ever objected but were generally appreciative of the approach & understanding of our dilemma. Whenever we turned it off it the quiet just came flooding back! It was useful until we got a replacement alternator, but we’ve never taken it away camping since. Solar + dc to dc charging gives us all the power we need to run two fridges plus various other bits & pieces indefinitely.
Carrying a gennie is a reasonable solution for some, & bearable by those who are their camping neighbours if used with consideration. Running it at night just to power a 240v light globe is not reasonable! Running it during the day to top up a battery is far more acceptable. Note however that the 12v output that most gennies have are inadequate for battery charging, generally the voltage is insuffient to charge a battery & that is not what it is intended for. For battery charging with a gennie a 240v mains charger is generally needed.
Regarding noise, an increase in decibels does not equate to a linear increase in noise. The 67 to 72 decibels of that Ryobi gennie is not just a little louder than the likes of a Honda EU10i (52 dB), it’s a *lot* louder. The level of noise doubles for every 3 db increase! (There is more to it than that though - if interested see http://www.noisehelp.com/decibel-scale.html). This video gives a comparison between the dB of several generators - I sure wouldn’t want to be camped next to a 72dB one on full load! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uae4l1lNuYc
brought a spare paper air filter to use when I remove my K&N for cleaning.
Ive stayed at camps when ppl have dug a hole placed their
genset in the hole and covered with a piece of Corrigated iron.
YOU CAN STILL HEAR THEM NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO.
Should be banned from 1600hrs on to say 0800hrs fair for all
not just the greedy ppl
Mostly agree with the comments about Generators and whilst I have a 2KVA Gennie I have not used it Camping.
If I was on a extended trip I might take it for a Back up.
What really annoys me is Doof Doof Music in the middle of the Night whilst Camping in the Bush.
Take your bloody Ear Plugs so you don't annoy anyone else.
Yes I am a Cranky old Bastard LMAO
Nothing better than sitting around a fire with some good friends and
Johnny Cash or Kenny Rogers in the back ground.
Not a fan of musical instruments at camp either lol
Bought 1 Kincrome 4000 kg (its lift capacity not weight !) bottle jack from SCA for $55. Discovered on a recent trip where rear tyre was shredded that Nissan jack couldn't lift the axle high enough, needed another jack to get the axle up high enough so Nissan jack could slide under shock mount then lift wheel high enough off ground to fit spare. Was on a nasty bit of track with little room to maneuver and no flat rocks to drive onto!
I want that last one. Should be able to run the sandwich toaster, 60" tele, surround sound, splitties, deep fryer for snacks and full sized coffee machine. . . Actually on second thoughts might need a couple of KV Kubota, now that's camping [emoji6] . . .

Bought a front bash plate from Patrol-a-Part
It tore off years ago from vibration and was making so much noise i removed it. I came close to belting the front rods last trip so decided to install a heavier unit. This is the front guard - unsure about the other guard they offer - might be overkill for my type of driving.
After a cheapie light bar. Haven't brought one yet.
Which one do you reckon?

Thanks.
Have a look at Led light co. They are a vendor here.
https://www.ledlightco.com.au/
I got some good lights from them.

@jaysee that bottom bar is pulling 54 amps
Im not a fan of the flood on the end but thats all they seem to sell these days
As Eric says have a talk to the LED light ppl who are vendors he'll be able to tell you
which LED bar to buy,
Mine has epistar leds , Cree would be better, but that would depend on price.
I like to top one as it gives you either two reverse lights or camp lights
How /where are you going to mount the light bar???
Under the rack.
Had a quick look at the link @Hodge will need to have a look at them side by side well one on each tab at least. I know that they're going to be better, but it will be a smaller bar, which doesn't worry me at all, I actually like the look of the single row better. As long as they're producing the same amount of light (throw).
