My ST GU8 has the rear seat aircon in there as well. Must be a later model thing.

Cool ....when you finish there you can start on my car mate...???
How long you think you have to go???
I think ill be ready to send it for a roadworthy early next week, once i have that, then i can book it in for its WOVI (writen off vehicle inspection).
I found out the WOVI people have about a month back log of cars to inspect, you need a roadwothy just to book the car in, so im just getting what i need done on the car for the roady, because then ill have to wait a month anyway.
While im waiting for the WOVI i can fit all the other gear like dual battery, spotties, winch etc (if i havent already) plus maybe get it over to scotties place to have a look a doing the rear bar ?
So i guess im still about 6 weeks away from getting rego
Great work, it will be worth the wait from the looks of the build so far. Well done and something you can be very proud of.
OK , been bustin my guts getting things done, and its now all ready for a roadworthy inspection, booked in for monday (or tuesday if they get busy).
I still have lots to do, but bars are all on, onboard air system finished, stereo installed, i put another few litres of stone gaurd under it today, as well as a few more litres of chassis black, its well and truly beach "resistant" now
Had the use of a Trade plate, so this allowed me to take it out on the road for a little drive, went really good concidering its the first time its been driven on the road for well over a year.
how it looks now....

While i was driving around, some guy nearly ran into a traffic island he was staring at the car so much (ha-ha), another couple stopped 3 cars back from a set of lights to look at the paint in the sun
Anyway, still got sliders , winch , spotties and all that jazz to hook up, but getting very close now, it was so nice to get just a little bit of enjoyment back from it all today, instead of the normal work, work, work i have come to associate my time spent with the car.
well done mate, you have more patients than me and all your hard work has very nearly paid off! not long now untill you get to get back in the saddle! I bet you can't wait.
I've been reading this novel of a post it is a absolute credit to you , something I would not even consider doing , well done
Steve
Looks brilliant mate, great result for all the hard yards you've put in.
Awesome once again. So turbo or duramax conversion next??
Looks wicked mate. Good to see it out and about.
Hi Steve I'm very happy for you having got your car to this point, and oh so close to being ready to get back out where it belongs. As many have stated I cannot fathom the work that you have put into this - Ive done a few ground-up restorations on old Fords and Holdens, but the Patrol is at another level altogether given the complexity of modern cars. I've been able to learn heaps about my own car and modern cars in general just by reading your topic!
See you soon! regards Murray
PS - here's a few of my favourite pics of your truck.

Good to hear and see Steve.
Just seen your air compressor set up looks good, are you able to fill the tank from an external air supply as well like a garage air compressor???
Thanks guys , yes very looking forward to getting it dirty !
Well ......i do have a GT4294r sitting here........ he-he, no don't think so Matty, don't need to give myself more work.
Thanks for the pics Murray, i can remember those days like it was yesterday, looking forward to GH and other trips again with you sometime.
Well I can Todd, and when i designed the set up, i had this ability down as very important (pre filling the tank at a servo) but now rather than a fixed valve inlet (as i was going to have), i just need to use a tyre adaptor on the compressor outlet port to back feed the tank.
Now why didn't i bother with a extra port ?, well in my testing of the system, i found that the pumps could fill the 9L tank from dead empty to 120psi (auto cut off pressure) in 1min 30 seconds, plus i have a switch on the centre console so i can prefill the tank while driving and long before stopping the car to air up anyway.
Now ,servo "prefilling" would save pre-HEATing the compressors before i need to pump my tyres, but id have to drive around "all day" with the tank pressurised , while im very confident its all 100% safe, i just dont want a "bomb" in the car all day (incase the car got rolled or it was in a crash, not that that ever happens, lol)
You can see the outlet top left below the seat belt, down below are the fuses so they can be reached through the factory trim door/panel, also you can see i have a pressure gauge that will be visible through a hole that the previous owner cut for a fridge plug.
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../complast2.jpg
Also have a adjustable reg near the gauge, can just turn it through the little door, but figured i most likley never use it anyway, didnt put a water trap on it , i chose to put the outlet at the botton of the tank, so i can then open the valve to atmosphere, and blow the water out when i need to.
The other benefit i can think of from prefilling at the servo, is to be able to still use the "tank" should the on-board compressor pump die, i have 2 pumps, both are wired independantly of each other, and are connected to the tank with heavy duty one way valves, so one pump can die, and the other will still fill the tank.
So yeh, after all this, i thought, why drill another hole in my side trim for something i wont really ever use, its messy enough now.....
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...tingagain2.jpg
I wanted the outlet inside the car so it wont get sandy or muddy, but also so i can just plug on without moving all the stuff in the cargo area, i think it should work well.....

.
It's good to see just about every time someone needs help off road no matter how big or small the the four wheel drive community is always there to help
Whenever your ready big fella , i can bring the car over any weekend you want from now onwards, just try and make it a weekend where you know you could be getting frustrated as hell ,attempting to make some fussy barstood happy (me)
I think the GU bar is going to be "a lot" harder to do than on a GQ, i have a few ideas, and happy for your guidence or input from any forum members that want to help, and after all the welding practice you've been getting, im expecting your workmanship to be well up to my metal work standards now
Thanks Steve, all good points :) You have convinced me not to worry about it when I set mine up :)
I forgot to mention, the car passed Roadworthy today , nothing to do except adjust front wheel bearings, they said it was very minor play.
The bearings never got re-checked after the Lokka was installed, so this may have something to do with it, at least i can book my WOVI now :)
Cool, yeh it sounds like a important feature, until you think about when you may actually use it in the real world, i could't think of any decent reson to have one, and anyway, its pretty easy to make/keep a adapter to just back feed through the outlet port if you find the need to.
Nice one Steve, so would you care to enlighten me on how you managed to get your hands on a trade plate anyway?
A perk from working in the Automotive Industry Todd ! :)
I scored a WOVI inspection date for 2 weeks time ! :bananarock:
The winch is on and working now, and Hardcase is on.
Also got the windows tinted today.......

Lookin smick Steve, well for a GU anyway *L*
Got my tweeters all mounted nice now, audio is coming along OK for what im after...
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...rd/intmod3.jpg
Ive also replaced the cig lighter port with a proper power socket that has a door , i also fitted one in the blank on the other side, except this one runs permanent power from my second battery, this way i can run stuff without the key in the IGN, or run both while travelling.
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j320/02ard/intmod.jpg
I also fitted my UHF, i always seem to sit the mic on my lap when off roading with a group (as you are talking often) ,with my old set up, my UHF mic was near the dash at the front, i found that going down steep hills, the mic would often end up on the floor, getting pulled off my lap by the spring mic cord, so i wanted to have the mic cord come from the side not the front this time.
I had two different external UHF speakers to try , but none sounded as good/loud as the one built into the UHF main body, i even pulled this speaker out of the UHF body, and put it in a external speaker pod, it still did NOT sound as good as when mounted in the factory case/body, the factory case is the perfect audio enclosure for the speaker.
My solution to both the above problems, was to mount the UHF body in the centre console, i had already chosen to run the cord through the top of the handbrake rubber, dispite what it looks like, the handbrake can never squeeze the cable even if it got way out of adjustment.
I drilled holes in the console above the drink holders to match the factory speaker holes on the UHF body, and mounted the unit behind matching the holes perfectly, the result is fantastic, and the speaker is now closer to my ears (and the passengers ears) than where i would have put a external speaker.

Haven't you read all the other threads on here Steve, I'm telling you this now and once only.................................that's not where you place your tweeters *LMAO*
Love your uhf idea, I don't really use my console much so is a great idea, wonder if my GME will take a mic like yours....mmmm time 2 do some homework
P.S: do you plan on rolling in the sand to be needing covers over the ciggi plug *L*
P.S.S: Love your work Steve
Great news Steve. I will have to come and see it in person if I have time when in brisbane.
Im not sure if you have thought about it or knowing you probably already have it organised but I reckon if you upgraded to the later series lights it would look quite good :).
Bwahaahaa !
Let me know if you get stuck mate, i may have access to another unit with a mic like mine
Ha-ha, so i found out, all the sand goes to the roof lining, away from the console when your car goes on da roof !
Hope you can Matty, look forward to some trips together bud.
Yes i wanted to upgrade fronts to later model as i needed to buy new corner lamps anyway, the headlights and corner lamps need to be changed for the upgrade, and it all started at about $400, the small cosmetic difference (even tho i do like it) was just not worth the extra dollars im afraid.
Yep no problem, already checked with DOT in person, even downloaded the "rules" for trade plate usage from DOT web site, and i can assure you with what i am doing, i well and truly, meet "more" than one of the criteria required for legitimate usage of the trade plate, so 100% legal as per QLD legislation.
I just read this again, i should add, in my GU, that the UHF body/speaker sits in a unused/unseen void in the centre console, so this mod does not actually consume "any" useable storage from the centre console at all, its just wasted space only ever seen from underneath, after the console is removed .
Hey Steve have you got much on tomorrow?
I will be over the southside tomorrow so if its ok with you I might come and check out your ride.
Yeh mate, ill PM you my addy
Hey that air tank set up you have done is that running anything else??
I just got another compressor and tank today as I am re-doing my rear draws and wanted to set it up right this time.. do you run the compressors via a relay??
Did you not bother with the drainage of the tank??
Would have loved a how to on this mod you have done!!!!!
If you mean a locker ,No (i have a Auto Lokka), i mostly just wanted it for pumping tyres, but having a air blower is a big bonus for many reasons, plus the ability to run air tools i guess (not that id have any with me)
Yes , i run them through a 100AMP Solid State Relay (its a bit of overkill, but it this one i used) ....
http://search.jaycar.com.au/search?w...elay&view=list
The relay is controlled by a automatic pressure switch, and the pressure switch gets its power from a toggle switch on the centre console, then as a fail safe, the toggle switch only gets power when the IGN is turned to at least ACC position.
This makes it fully automatic once switched on, yet won't run without the key in the IGN (just in case you forget and leave the switch in the on position overnight) also the IGN key then becomes a emergency shut off.
I thought about putting a drain tap under the gaurd, but thought it would just get blocked with mud etc, then i thought about a tap behing the interior trim with a hose i could point/put outside the car.
Then i thought, i already have a hose going outside the car, if i make the outlet take air from the lowest point in the tank, i can always remove any water if collected, all i have to do, is purge the line a little each time just before the first use.
Im more than happy to help/answer any questions you have mate
This is the bit I need a diagram for... I am ok if I can see it or if Rodney writes it out in a way I can draw it to paper..... my set up is the same tank as you have with a normal compressor that only has a mechanical pressure switch but I want a electric one.
I am fine with all the plumbing its just the pressure switch and how it works in relation to power switches and so on???
Yeah I know??
Ive used my "exellent" MS Paint skills to whip up a diagram ;) (ha-ha)
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...irediagram.jpg
Obviously your Pump has a earth that goes to Earth (the car body)
I ran a seperate Earth wire alongside the Power wire (direct from my AUX Battery), then i connected this earth, and "all" my earths regarding the compressor/s etc, all to the same single factory bolt hole.
Let me know if you can't understand it ?
