When you think about it your only really expense is fuel. Your going to eat weather on the road or at home.. I find myself eating less when on the road.

500 to 1000 on fuel pending where you are driving to/from plus setting up your rig but most people have it pretty sorted it doesn't need to be a monster stock 4wds do this route. More just a few spares remember the more you carry the more strain on the vehicle and the more fuel used. Tyre pressures and correct speed should see everyone through.
Hey BWANA dont listen to the majority, Where's the PARTY LIGHTS. LMTO
Thanks all for the info,
This is a trip I can defiantly do so will have
To sit with the family to discuss.
I'm doing a month in the cape in July/aughust
So this would be something different.
After 10 years of doing trips in the GU
If finally traded the old girl, hope you
Don't mind a cruiser tagging on!!!
Hi all...this trip sounds pretty good....hey Darren..I am just picking up the GQ from melbourne on the 24th april and will have to completely set it up from stock ....time and funds permitting would it be a problem if I had to drop in on it at late notice or does it need to be in concrete with a lot of notice...cheers
Now to decide on which patrol to take? Gq petrol or GU diesel, the Q already has a 140 ltr tank and roof top tent but it won't take much work to swap them to the GU.
Yeah I'd be swapping the tank out and taking the Gu if you have it. Or keep an eye out over the next 12 months for another LR tank for the Gu.
When I did the Madigan Line I was going to swap out the LRA tank from the GQ but picked up another second hand tank from a GQ for $350 a month before the trip and now have a Long Range tank in both cars! Awesome.
This is one thing ill be hinting for to for the q..
I'm looking at making a 140L main, will this suffice. I realise more is better, but just prioritizing..

Yes that's probably what will do, still keeping an eye on gumtree and eBay for a tank.
Just found a LR tank for $150, will pick it up on Friday
Just made this thread Sticky, not that we will have any trouble finding it though...lol
Bloody Hell dogman. What a score..

not as good as doggie but i scored one last night 550 delivered to perth 140ltr and a spartan locker for the front of the gu so its a given the roof rack and tent will go onto the gu for this trip.
Nice.. good point on the roof rack.. didn't think of this trip.. hopefully the bigfella comes this way before then...:p
I might wait a while on the tanks, or were all going to be fighting each other.
also if there is a call for them ill make some 140ltr mains for a GOOD price.

I'm a chance for this also. Though its miles away there is plenty of time to prepare. I'm a bit of a newby to this forum so could be could to catch up with the regulars.
Would really like to be able to attend this one - damn work, June to Sept is my go no where zone. Bright side, makes me money to afford new toys for the troll
Has anyone actually done this line towing a camper??????
I'm just having second thoughts on bringing the camper and concerned about 20 other camper trailers in our group too?
Yeah it's been done many times with camper trailers AB. Campers must be rated OFFROAD Style campers though please folks! No 6x4 builders trailers please. You will be asked to leave it behind as we can't drag it if its knackered.
We will be splitting into groups of 10 or less and ideally have a mix of trailers and non trailers. Maybe have a group of early risers leaving at 8am and a second group leaving at 10am or something? Then Meetup for camp each night!
Maybe?
I will be there with no trailer of course.
If you're happy and you know it tap a post!
Epic meet up gents!!!
Everyone needs to bring 10 pieces of hardwood/red gum.
I will bring as much hardwood as I can carry. I would be happy to bring a trailer load up to Brisbane for the Brisbane guys to take some if need be. Could even bring it in bags to make it easier for everyone. I sell firewood for a living so I always have a good supplyAttachment 28882

If I get my 6x4 lifted leaf spring with some bigger tyres will that be suitable to bring? I I ow its awhile away and can't really predict how long each days drive will be but what's the plan on hitting a camp each day as I'm just trying to work out a good accommodation set up for 4 each night our tent now is to big for a trip like this
Short answer Healy is No mate. It is not just a set of springs that makes a trailer an Offroad Trailer. Bigger axles. Bigger bearings. Heavier draw bar. Heavier chassis. Stronger trailer.
This great country is littered with 6x4 trailers that had bigger wheels fitted and fell apart in the middle of No Where and were abandoned. When it breaks we then have to figure out what to do with all your gear as we all already full ;)
Pack light. Buy an OzTent or a much better trailer. Sorry mate. Just the way it is. Got to keep It real!
Hmmmm, decisions decisions, to bring the camper or not !
With this many people going there is as much a risk of cars breaking down as there is campers( less likely the campers if they are full off road) ..
I really don't know what to do, a year to think about it I guess!
Scotty
i have invested in a hannibal roof top camper tent for this trip, its getting expensive but its my excuse for getting the extra bits i want, long range tank, front locker, already purchased, remote res shocks for the 3' lift next then to make up the extension on the rear floor where the seats were and a cargo barrier and if i can a drop slide for the fridge.
So what's the sa count for this trip?
