That's pretty bad for a GU, how did it get like that? I just took off the trim of my 1981 MQ to spray fish oil in and the rear quarters were good, apart from 32 years of dust and spider webs! I thought the GU would be galvanised.
Regarding your chop, I've not seen one on a GU either, personally I'd just fix the holes. I'm guessing you'd need a chop to be engineered.
Sorry, I just read the rest of the thread, looks like it's had a pretty hard life off road. Amazing how quickly it can kill a car, hope you manage to get it sorted.
So Ive just put car back together wouldn't really no it's been chopped rear bar covers it not gonna bother with welding panels on holes as I'm gonna look for a new car with blown engine etc will take along time to get the funds up but at least I can still drive it just not gonna let anybody else get in as I would hate for the car to injure anybody cheers for the advice guys
Take it into Melbourne where the GQs are being knocked off.
So I might be able to get a body and chassis just waiting on a mate to call back its only 20 mins from home aswell depending on condition and price. Is there anything differences between chassis other than engine mounts?
And I also noticed today my rear right hand spring has collapsed from what I can see it is due to the left hand side chassis rails I'm so glad I didn't go out last weekend new rear spring and shocks are on there way thanks to a couple of fibs and warranty
Healy,
It is hard to see from the pics, but it may be just that you need an adjustable Panhard bar to recentralize the diff.
Springs and shocks look to be ok.... don't spend anything on it till you get someone else to confirm.
