Yeah I love mine.
I've been splitting wood since I was 10 years old mate and hands down best axe I've used to date.
You'll get used to it and find your own style. You can keep chopping all day without getting tired of the heavy splitters.
The lightness of the handle versus the axe head works pretty good for weight distribution.
I love the light handle and heavy head. I can swing it for twice as long before wearing myself out. Like AB I've been cutting wood since a young kid and it's easily the best I've used.
These axes look like they would good for camping trips would store nicely upon the roof rack next to the shovel .whats price have you guys been paying for these?
Thinking the large one and a tommy hawk smaller one
Bunnings has a range of them mate.

Thanks for that AB will go check them out tomorrow

Maybe one of these?

Or a sharpening stone?
Interesting. I thought the preferred method of sharpening an axe (or any blade for that matter) was in the same direction as the blade not perpendicular to it like that fiskars sharpener?
Yeah not sure myself to be honest. I use a sharpener of a very similar type for my kitchen knives and it works really good. But the sharpener does wear out after a while and it needs to be replaced. For sharpening axes I would think the sharpener would last a long time compared to the kitchen sharpener, only because of the amount of times it would be used. I sharpen my kitchen knife maybe once a week to keep it super sharp.
Ive got a lanksey diamond knife sharpening kit i use on my kitchen/hunting knives might give those a crack over the edge.

I paid less than $50 for the two larger ones and $30 for the hatchett, at the time
it was cheaper to buy them from the States.
They come with a protective cover for the blade or give @oncedisturbed a bell
and He'll be able to whip up a leather cover at a reasonable price.
You can mount them onto your cargo barrier with those rubber shovel holding bits
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/QUICK-FIS...wAAOSwO~hXHrct. A safe way to store it and out of the road as well
Hitachi Alternator from patrolapart
They look to be a good way to mount the axes only problem i dont run a cargo barrier ,i like the idea of being able to access the fridge whilst on the road and not having to stop to get a fresh beverage. They would go allrite on the roof rack but couldent leave the axes up there full time as security would be a problem but would be great for trips out in the bush .
If you're not running drawers then it could mount along the rear Quarter moulding.
I have my fridge behind the driver, as its usually just me going away.
Plus in your case with the Fiskar having a hole in the handle thats one end secured
the other would be easy enough to figure out IMO
I didnt even think about the hole in the handle of the axe , i can get a long shank lock and lock it to the mesh on my roof rack. Thanks TD for that :smiley_thumbs_up:
It does suck big time we cant have gear stored on or in our cars always at the ready these days without the worry that it wont be there when we need it .4x4s have been targeted in my area by druggy scumbags looking for easy way to get there next hit, spotlights ,lightbars ,shovels ,spare wheel bags , basicly anything they can rip off the car
Bang Head
Heres a bargain for anyone in the market for a Fiskar axe

Finally bite the bullet and am going to setup a solar reg permanent in the truck. Also got the Bluetooth dongle module so I can get live info on my phone and 30 day history too.

I use them a fair bit (not the Dongle tho)
One minor issue (but major design fail) IMHO is the LV disconnect jumper is proud of the case so is easy to bust off/dislodge.
To get the best result if you have multiple panels is hook them up in series not parallel.
MPPT is more efficient at the higher Input volts.
A new Panasonic PVR to replace the HTPC.

Didnt buy it but scored a 42" single row light bar with spot in the centre and flood on the outside.
My son found it while doing traffic duties, Ill never use it as I like my double row spot bar.
But you never know, still trying to talk myself into removing my driving lights and replacing
with a 600mm light bar. decisions decisions lol
For convenience I was even thinking on the cargo barrier. It would mean at least a couple of meters run (still less than the 10m cable it came with) but access would be simple and straight forward as I already have 6 B&S twin core running to a junction down back and was contemplating running power to roof rack for lights from there too. Although running power from snorkle side out of bonnet would be neat (also have junction there). No snorkle yet though. Got a factory one in the shed from old gu ute. But contemplating 4" snorkle so not sure i can be bothered installing factory nissan haha. First world problems.
