I think it would depend on the pace of the crossing as most people have already booked a couple nights accommodation in Birdsville.

On a serious note guys, we are heading into the harsh outback of Australia and we need to ensure everyone and I mean everyone has an adequate supply of water.
Here is a guide for how much each person needs to carry.

Absolutely there is JC, I was just doing a funny Russell Coight thing. That is plenty of water mate and we have stops before and after.
I’ll have my 50 litre tank and maybe a couple of 10-20 litre cask waters and drinking bottles etc, all good bro.

A bit of news posted on Facebook today may be of interest to all of you intending to head into the Simmo this year.
"The Birdsville hotel is pleased to announce that it will be launching from late April/early May a Simpson Desert 4WD recovery service. A custom-built Mercedes Benz 4x4 Arocs equipped to cater for 5 passengers, including children if required, will feature a specially designed sliding tilt tray for recoveries in a rugged sand dune environment. At a cost of nearly half a million dollars, this state-of-the-art vehicle will revolutionise recovering vehicles out of one of the most remote areas in the country. Over the past 3 years no recovery service has been operated due to the retirement of an outgoing long-standing operator. This new operation will give confidence to those travelling and holidaying across one of the most beautiful places in Australia, the Simpson Desert, our backyard!
Crossing the Munga-Thirri NP however doesn’t come without its challenges and while this is part of the attraction for many, it can also be a worry for those considering embarking on the adventure of a lifetime. Most Roadside Assistance and General Insurance Polices do not cover the Simpson Desert and emergency callout services can take weeks and cost upwards of $10,000 meaning breaking down will likely ruin even the most resilient 4WD enthusiasts’ journey. In the coming weeks information on our Recovery Assistance Packages will be released and are designed to make an unfortunate breakdown rescue much more affordable for travellers choosing to buy a package. For only a few hundred $$$ you’ll be able to purchase a recovery package on-line assuring you peace of mind that if something does go wrong, you’ll be covered for a recovery. More details coming soon. "

Hi guys, i wont be on this trip due to work commitments but I think you are all crazy planning to do it when the big bash is on, you will all be constantly held up by people who have no idea how todrive offroad. I have done 4 Simpson trips and 2 were during school holidays and we will not even do that again. Last trip was July last year and tnetracks were so easy we decided to take a side excersion, drove over virgin sandhills for 2 days, managed only 70km and lots of fun. This may have been mentioned before but getting oziexplorer topo maps is really helpfull, shows all tracks including overgrown seldom used tracks. In Coober Pedy the best accommodation ihave used is Desert View Underground Appartments. While in Coober Pedy you have to try the Coat of Arms pizza from Johns Pizza, was there 2 weeks ago and they are still the best pizzas ever. Happy to chat or take calls from anyone after advise.
Yes the big red bash was taken into consideration as it’s the weekend prior so hopefully we will be clear of too much traffic coming towards us as most now drag a van to that and won’t be crossing the simpson, the few that don’t we will be 9 days after so hopefully little to zero oncoming from that.
Got the alloy floor in today, just need to seal the joins around the outside of the floor and will then install the carpet and put split rubber edging to make sure to carpet on the edges doesn’t lift, then it will be putting nutserts in and bolting the fridge cover and drawer frame into place and sliding the fridge and drawers in.Attachment 87842Attachment 87843
4 months and we will be arriving in Birdsville

I’m taking my puncture repair kit , a set of hoses and serpentine belt, filters, oil and 20ltr extra diesel and if I can fit it in the airbag jack, I’ve got 2 canvas bags with assorted tools as well, I think chock is bringing ranger cv’s as he is known for wrecking them , I’ve also got insulation tape and repair tape and 2 spares, will also have 4 ltrs of coolant, possibly good if 2 or 3 more others carry some as well just in case. Hopefully nothing is needed
Possibly the td boys should look at carry spares between them as well.

@Stropp & @MudRunnerTD,
If I nuffy remember correctly we are all splitting into 3 convoys?
Us HillBilly’s at the rear do have a Sand Anchor, probably not needed these days, are you front runners carrying within convoy too?

I like the layout, plenty of space around the main items. I usually go for a more compact assy, and you have more room than my 1400 x 1800 canopy it seems.
Thanks, mine is 1700w 1750 long and the doors determined where the bits go, I’m going to fit my coffee machine between the two doors where the gap between the fridge and drawers are, fits nicely, in front of the fridge will be the new battery system if I can ver afford one.
I have worked out I can come along on this trip, OK if I bring a mate with his Landcrab?
Don’t want to but unless we get someone pulling out I think we are at the limit mate, it starts to get too cumbersome trying to organise everyone. daz called it some time back
“That's nearlly got to be called FULL. Beyond 10 can get messy and slow.
13 or 14 really is bursting gents. 10G needs to be the final inclusion bar something extraordinary.”
Keep an eye on it and if anyone elspulls out I’ll let you know, don’t like to say it but we do need to keep it manageable unless Darren gives it the ok as he is the trip leader I’m just organising.
This is so difficult, Tony needs to be on this trip as he’s been a huge contributor on our forum and still is.
Captains call, Tony you are more than welcome and we’ll work it out, he’s more than capable than most of us on this trip.
There are a shipload of non forum members on this trip and Tony is priority being a contributor.
Can’t wait mate!!!
This is an NP trip!

I have no problem with who comes and he is more than welcome, just Darren was concerned at the numbers and organisation, however in saying that we will need to stop others from coming now as we still possibly have Snicko/ Nev and Kat who have expressed interest as well as chock so we will end up with 16 or 17 cars so we will definitely need to split the group into two and leave 30 mins apart so we can overlap at stops for a little while so we can mingle a bit.
Ps chock has confirmed his dad John is a non starter so tony is good to go and if he and his mate come then we have 14 or 15by my count.
