What I'm about to say is my journey .....................................
In consultation with my doctor, dietician, diabetes educator, Registered Nurse, podiatrist and opthomologist, (My Care Plan Team), we worked out my program/testing and a lot of blood (BSL testing) sweat (exercise) and tears (shock/horror and sheer determination), I was able to beat Type 2 diabetes in 76 days.
My BSL is around 5.8-6 - now.
I am in remission from a chronic disease (Type 2 diabetes) through diet and exercise. My weight hovers between about 96-97kg. Not as low as I'd like, but I'm more than happy with my achievement (lost about 18-20kg in 6 months).
I credit much of my success to the wife for religiously cooking from the book 'the CSIRO and BAKER IDI Diabetes Diet and Lifestyle Plan'. I've backed off a bit now, but those initial 6 months were critical to my success.
My journey has been no walk in the park, nor smelling the roses along the way. I've had a few chats from doctors about 'pulling my finger out' and doing something about my weight, but I knew this time I HAD to LISTEN. I've halved my BP tablets and completely off diabetic medication. I'm allowed 2 standard alcoholic drinks a day, but my problem is I can't stop at one or two, so I choose not to drink at all.
To quote from the book 'the CSIRO and BAKER IDI Diabetes Diet and Lifestyle Plan'.... 'Each day in Australia, 275 people develop type 2 diabetes'
When I read this, it absolutely floored me!!!
I'd strongly recommend everybody consider seeing their doctor for a full, yearly medical check up - starting right now - not tomorrow or next week or next month - especially BEFORE you start any exercise or weight loss. Some procedures may be/are invasive, but what price are you willing to pay for a bit of TEMPORARY discomfort? Hopefully not your life.
The end.
Take care out there.
