well just got back from Sydney today to the news that a small group from my Club has been granted a permit into a long term closed section of the Otways for a single day in December.!!! MVO Tracks that i have only heard about. never seen. Cant wait!!!..
This is what the GQ was built for. I will try and get some good pics.

Cheers Adrian appreciate your comments.
Well went out to the Birthday Party of ol' mate the 80 owner (the Rogue Dung Beetle) last night and i caught up with Simon from 4WD TV. He tells me that they have just put the finishing touches on my "Your Rig" segment for the show as well as the story of our trip up that Monster hill in Wombat. He said it is a great segment and fairly lengthy and we should see that in the early new year!!..
I'll let you guys know when to look out for it and i will likely embed it here once its been on!.
Look out for the Forum Sticker. ;)
Excited.
... and what else happened at the party?

looking forward to the pics man, how ya find that light bar up top?
So i promised some pics of my day and here are a few, see how i go for time, might get a few more than a few up??
Well we have a big drive planned next weekend into Permit country in the Otways and just wanted to make sure the cars were running ok. We had a MASSIVE amount of rain on Saturday so the Bush was calling us on Sunday for a quick spin.
Small but heavily modified group gathered for a bit of a play and out we went to Paddy's Swamp. Its a spot that get a bit of traffic but we kinda went random and tired our luck in areas not often travelled and certainly a big car had not done these tracks in many years. Tracks they were though. No crunching bush for us.
Danny the Rogue Dung Beetle was my Navi for the day and we had a Zuk fully modded, a GQ LWB running a 5.7 LS1 and a Shortie on Simexes.
Got out for a walk to see if the track was drivable. all parked up.

Holy Crap! I'm first! Well bugger it here goes nothing!
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322443494
In the hands of my spotter, wish he'd stop taking pics and tell me where to point cause i cant see crap! ;)
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322482727
So you can see my problem.... This is really steep and that is bloody deep.
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322482860
You can kind of make out the slope there...
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322482985
Love the Nissan!
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322483122
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322483195
getting there
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322483259
Remember the rain we had on Saturday! look at the River! I cant believe how dry it was in this bush!
The river is the bottom and now its going to get interesting, its been a commute until this point!
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322483343
I didn't get far up the other side before the winch rope got dragged out! The back wheels did not even get off the bottom. The rut at the bottom was more than 600mm deep!
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...B/P1050964.jpg
So the back wheels did not follow the front wheels, i'm off the edge and need to drag the back up a 1.5m drop off.
Sitting on its chassis rails, fully locked, all 4 wheels spinning, not making a dent!
BIG WINCH!
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322483576
The only way is up now
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322483737
Nah do the maths, way too much weight there! time for a double line pull.
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322483821
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322484003
Its great to be out with guys that know what they are doing. You can see that i am sitting on my guts.
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322484132
With a double line pull comes more winch power, more winch power allow more strain and Snap!
Ummmm? That aint good! Broken Winch rope! The rope is only 4 or 5 winch pulls old! Damn!!
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...B/P1050970.jpg
Danny did the splice, took a few goes but it held the load. The Navi did good for a Toyota driver.;)
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...B/P1050971.jpg
Well the Splice was re done 4 or 5 times and got longer and longer each time it failed. This was a Monster pull and surely could not get much heavier!
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...B/P1050975.jpg
Finally back under my own steam, Love the Nissan, Love the GQ!!

The Zuk was next, these things are awesome!

Mate just read your entire build thread before heading to work, great photos and some true dedication show over the years.
The "race to the hospital for bubs" post, was a classic.....
Awesome stuff, jealous of your skills mate...love the pics:clapping:
Good pics MR, shame about your rope though mate but looks like you had a good crew with ya....Even that bloody tojo driver does ok...LMAO
thanks for sharing mate looks awsome down your way
Thats some good technical wheeling you blokes get up to MR & not a bad looking spot either.
So what was trashed other than the winch rope?
great shots thr mate, love a good difficult track.
Nice work! I too am interested in what killed the rope. I use the same raw material for fishing line - obviously a fair bit lighter. :-) Does not like heat nor abrasion in the fishing context
OK so the Zuk got to the bottom and with a bit of guidance had a good run up
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322566162
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322566231
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322566284
The Zuk was able to get higher up the bank on entry and did a good job of a tough spot.
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322566341
He had a couple of runs at it though
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322566533
Tried a different line
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322566624
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322566710
You can see where the Nissan had taken the top off and i had done some shovel work but at the end of the day the Zuks are incredible. They can humble a big car.
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322566795
So back to the first line he took and got a better run
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322567105
Popped up
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322567221

Nice flex, these Zuks are wicked little things
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322567317
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...g?t=1322567469
The bloody thing drove it!!!
hmmmm something has happened to Photobucket, it wont let me edit any more pics?? It just crashes. Might have to come back tomorrow!!
Teaser pic
BUGGER!
http://nissanpatrol.com.au/images/Ac...B/P1060056.jpg
Now thats how you smash a CV right there...... Buggers right mate.
Lucky you keep all those spare axles stashed away.
Shame Dazz, thats seriously munched mate!
Can't wait to hear the write about this one too....
Well guys there is a massive write up coming on the repair of the hub above!
Old mate the Rogue Dung Beetle has been a huge help and he and i have spent the last 16 hours rebuilding the front end of the GQ. MASSIVE TASK.
We did a full swivel hub rebuild and replaced the wheel bearings to the front. There was a fair bit of damage to the knuckle housing but some very neat dremel work by Danny had it looking sweet.
We took a heap of pics and will be able to do a CV & Swivel Hub rebuild thread in the DIY section in the coming days.
Knackered now though and picking up Danny at 5:15am for a 6am meet-up in the morning to go do an extreme trip into the Otways........ Watch this space! Yeah Ha!!
Thanks Danny, Your a Champ mate!
I love the smell of Diff Oil in the Morning.... ;)
the Permit drive is this weekend, the trip last weekend was just to make sure everything worked ;) Got a little carried away..LMAO
All works now but ;)
Great work Danny, and look forward to the DIY thread guys, that will be a ripper post for us!!!
