Thanks benny.. went to bunnings this morning and it had those horrible speed bumps and the car handled them better than it ever has.
Looking forward to heading off tomorrow.
Really........ bump stops should have been done a long time ago.
If george has a 2 post hoist it will be much easier.
Remove the shocks and take an extended and collapsed measurement of the shock. Remove the springs.
Lower the hoist and drop it onto the bump stops, take a measurement between the shock mounts and compare them to the collapsed length of the shock and make up the difference. Its always good to set the bump stops with about 10mm to spare on the shock as a bit of a safety buffer.
G'day BloodyAussie,
Nice build thread!

Yeah been meaning to update this but have been a bit busy...
Picked up new endless air system and want to do a write up on the install.
It looks for sure I have to install the engine before brindabella so will try and fit it all up at the same time...
So much to do and so little time. .. I am also plastering the lounge room and I hate it with a passion .
Ill be interested to read the write up on the endless air as I have an air con compresser hanging off the side of my motor serving no purpose currently. No AC in north qld sucks!

I printed up the specs on tightening torque on the head bolts and cant find it..
My computer is packed away as I am sanding and plastering and in between coats I am going out to the garage and putting the engine together.
Such a simple thing.... farrrk!
Just got back from patrolapart and did not get any discount. .. was I supposed to.
Anyway back to sanding walls.
I spoke to Paul and told him I was mates with Andy and got a discount.
Snapped a head bolt.......... why did I not listen to George!!!!
Lesson learnt.... oh well no Brindabella....??? he he!!!!
I thought it was only if you ordered online via the forum
Hey blokes, some of the staff might not know about any discounts or anything yet.
It was a discussion that Paul and I had are working towards soon gents so hang tight.
Did the first round of tightening the head bolts and was starting on the second round when 4th bolt in it stretched too far.. snap!!!!
Couple of options and I am still working it out.
As for the discount...blah!!!
Did not feel a great amount of love from dealing with them.... oh well!!!
I got the broken head bolt out... I rang The Stud Doctor and he gave me advice over the phone and it came out easy..
Nice change to have a bloke give free advice and not come around to take money off me for something he knows is an easy fix.
Now what to do???
Head bolts on order....
I have a lot to update but a bit busy at the moment but just wanted to mention that the rear bar I have made has stood up to its first real test..
At Brindabella while we were negotiating a really tough down hill rock ledges my rear bar landed hard on a rock ledge and came through unscathed..... my welding has held up so far!!!!!!
I am proud of myself....!!!
So how do you find the suspension offroad?
Suspension is brilliant... I am worried about not having the correct bump stops and need to get onto that soon.
I think Andy wants to change his set up partly from watching how much flex I get now.
Nothing troubles me specially with the front locker... I know in the past there were tracks we did that would have given me a real hard time and with the locker and the amount of suspension travel I get I need not drive like I stole it which in turn hopefully means less stuff breaking.
I have still not gone out with the 35's on where clearance might be an issue to see how all that goes.... soon I think!!!
Did you eve get out and look to see if you were bottoming out the shock before the bump stop.
Surprisingly I did not see Johnny flexed up much at all. It's like with his old setup he needed to flex his muscles, but now everybody knows he has them so he need not show off.
OME shocks with Dobinsons springs 4inch.
Tough dog Panhards, superior drag link, patrol docta lower control arms, extended sway bar connects, drop boxes... and other shit!!!

I just realised that those 2 photos are with 3 inch but with my new 4 inch shocks??
See if I can find a pic with all 4 inch...heh funny!!!!
Isn't it 3" springs with 25mm spacers or did we take them out ?? Can't remember......
Well I am finally going to fit the engine over a period of days... it will start this weekend I think and will take as long as it needs to.
I am not going to rush to get it back together I am going to take my time.
I also got all the gear I need to convert the car back to petrol only.
I put most of the engine back together yesterday and George will come around on Friday to set the valve clearances.
I would start now but have my mums wake and ashes to deal with plus my Uncle is arriving tonight and look forward to drinky and a good meal tonight.
I cant wait to start but am a bit nervous... hope it all goes smoothly for the sake of my marriage ?? he he he!!!
If you wanna hand mate, you got my number.
This is the list I can think of so far.
Engine swap (swap some stuff from old to new)
Gearbox swap and more than likely clutch.
Remove gas system
Install new petrol tank and plumb up plus make up relay and switches.
I would also like to do front and rear diff oil.
I need to send my radiator off and get the guts cleaned out as I think that chemiweld has not done it any good.
A bit to do but will not rush it.....
