I love Nowra.... NSW south coast is probably one of my favourite places in the country.
It's on the cards BA. I just need to do it.
Definitely my favourite build so far mate, what else have you got planned?
Thanks grahamap. It's a never ending project. There's lots that I want to do. Pull out the roof lining and dynamat it. Rebuild the front swivels, chuck new rims on it, roof rack back on, new clutch, rebuild the gearbox.... It goes on. It's become more of a hobby than anything.
Andrew you make me sick....blah!!! come and hobby my car then !!!!
Ha ha ha.... no really come and hobby my car..... actually mate my next big thing other than my gearbox debacle is doing the dynamat as my car is way to noisy.... how much will I need to do my car do you think?
Where is the best place to buy it...?
Hahaha, my wife would kill me dead if I had another car to play with. I'm surprised I'm still alive actually. I told her about the steering box last night and yeah, not fun.
My advice BA is to get either the dynamat or another Butyl based sound deadener off eBay. So much cheaper than going to autobarn and buying it. Dynamat is pretty expensive, I think Westy tried another one of the butyl alternatives and had good success. This coupled with the sound deadening foam on top has great results. Especially if you pull the dash out and do the firewall.
I bought 2 of the 36square foot boxes off eBay and this has done the firewall, flooring up to but not including the cargo area and the four front doors. I've got fatmat in the cargo area, but this stuff is ashpalt based and smells like tar when it gets hot. Plus it melts and never actually was designed as a sound deadener, it just has been marketed as one by some clever people. You can buy this stuff at bunnings for very cheap, where it's sold as a roof tape or something along those lines.
Drag link arrived today, just in time for the long weekend.
I think I have the ends sussed out with regards to which one is the gu tie rod end using the P/N off them, but is there a very simple way to check?

You can check the angle where it fits into the stub axle and i think the length is deferent between gq and gu not sure on the thread tho.
Talking bout Dynamat, when its packed to be used in cars the price skyrockets but the stuff at bunnings is advertised as a water proofing agent but it does the same job and at roughly $35 per square meter you can go wrong
Thanks alitis.
Wire brushed the bracket and steering box, degreased them, treated them with metal ready then coated them with some seriously glossy paint called Rust Not Epoxy Paint.
Will fit them in the next few days hopefully.

Front main seal has made a bit of a mess of the front end. Corrosion proofing.
Very nice truck mate, some well spent time on it.
OH MY GOD parksy this build is absolutely ridiculous! iv been glued to my PC from the beginning. well done mate its amazing! if you ever sell it here's my number... PS how does you wife/family put up with this hobby. hahaha! Can't wait to see more!
Thanks guys. Wife isn't the biggest fan but she knows I enjoy it. Ps you don't happen to work for performance exhaust?
So I had dramas fitting the panhard mount brace. I believe it only fits on patrols with the old style mount which is thinner (I'm guessing). But a quick measure of the mount and I was able to easily adjust the brace to suit...

I also adjusted the steering box, adjusted the drag link so the steering wheel is centered and made sure the damper is centered properly. Steering is nice and tight and very direct.
Also removed the covers that sit on the front spring hats and removed about 2 cups worth of sand and mud. I highly recommend that everything check these as you can't see what's going on inside and they could be corroding to the sh1t house.
Cleaned them out and made sure they were dry. Then got some heavy diff oil and coated the insides and put the cover back on.
Cheer Andy good work as always.... those spring hats love to keep a good half tonne of mud in em thats for sure !!!!
I was shocked. How the hell does it get in there in the first place??
Played with the gauge cluster.

You can see the symbols and the temp High got missed. The actual symbols are hard to get to so I will leave them, but the High will need to be sorted.
I also removed the green tinted covers that went over the lights themselves, but I think these played a part in dispersing the light evenly and you can see in the pic that it's uneven(looks worse in pic) so might put these back in and see if it adds any green to the light.

Playing with LEDs
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...DA8DE5D9D6.jpg
Are you able to dim the leds, Parksy?
Yep dimmer switch works well with the LEDs.
So the leds just plug into the light socket, or have you had to convert them?
The dash back lights are just t10 globes. So grab some t10 LEDs and plug them straight in. If they don't light up, switch the polarity around and you should be good.
Coming along nicely mate!
Looking at getting some sunnies put on but not sure what offset to go, -22 or -44? I want the patrol to sit with a nice wide stance but maintaining the factory flares, but not sure which offset has the wheel sitting flush with the guard? Running 285/75/16s.
-22 will go out past your factory guards ... -13 is the offset that stays inside the guards.
I have my muds on -22 and my road tyres on -13
Thanks BA, I've done some measurements and I think I'll get away with -20 or there abouts. Did nissan have different versions of the factory flares? Apart from the obvious huge ones on the japan spec models?
Did some more interior construction.

I love how clean your car is.... it gives me something to aspire for !!
Ahhhaahaha. I'm glad that it gives you inspiration BA but I sure as hell couldn't ever convince the misses of another project car.
Oh BA, do you have a pic of your rig with the -13 roadies on it? I just have no ideas what to get for mine.
Here you go. ..
