I get a pic of my furnace later, its from 1850s ish, has a cast iron buffalo hand blower on it.
Just fire it up with some charcoal [the good stuff] from the local Chicken joint, that generates plenty of heat.
Blacksmith coke costs a fortune,
@ OD heres my blacksmith forge/blower, old school yes but works a treat.
Be easy enough to make one I'd think with fire bricks some lpg burner ,and a vacuum cleaner
to blow the air
Some more to add
feeling 100% better, heres my upside down finger skinner.
The bone is cow Osso Bucco and the timber is burr Walnut. Needs brass pins inserted
a polish and acid dip the blade to etch out the pattern, looking ok so far ,would have looked better with a polished brass strip in between bone and timber
Will be good to see finished. I take it by mention of acid dip that it is damascus steel?
Glad you are feeling better :)
Yes its Damascus, found this site as well some very good knives IMO
having probs putting up link,
These Mosaic pins finish off a knife well.
other pic is from that site I cant seem to link
Have seen some nice mosaic pins recently. will be looking at using some when I start making knives.
I purchased 2 x Rough Rider Custom knife kits which just came in for Me and Munchkin to make up, approx 4" folding blade, brass bolsters and woodrain scales.
If need be down the track I have the blue prints for a 30" x 1" linisher, especially for knife making, can't buy them in Aus.
Surprised you went a folded knife as your first. My first was a Seki City which I ended up swapping Simon from 4WD TV
for some rock crawler gear 1/10th scale. That had a streaky buff horn scales {handle} with stainless pins. Pic is SEKI CITY
that looks nice. Defintely interested in the prints later on cheers TD.
Just bought a Frost 40th Anniversary Toothpick as well, just waiting delivery.
